just talked with Sean who spoke with Dave McDonald of the Nebraska Shrine Bowl today.
McDonald let Sean know that Nebraska head coach Mike Riley reached out to him because it had come to his attention Husker signees Austin Allen, Jaylin Bradley and Chris Walker were not going to play in this year's Shrine Bowl in June.
Riley let McDonald know that those players have always had his blessing to play in the game and, in fact, Riley himself played in the Oregon Shrine Bowl game back in his day and then took off for Alabama to start his collegiate football career the day afterwards.
There has been a lot of talk about NU having its freshman report on the Friday prior to the Shrine Bowl which was why those signees wouldn't have been able to play in the game, but Riley has told Shrine Bowl representatives that is simply false information.
The one thing Riley is concerned about is Austin Allen's knee coming off of the injury he suffered last summer. He let it be known that he would like for Allen to be checked out prior to starting practices if he does end up playing in the game.
The Shrine Bowl will grant an exemption to the three signees to be added to the rosters if they decide they'd like to take part in the week's worth of activities.
