Joe Moglia and his Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will move up to FBS and become the 12th member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2016-17 for all sports but football and will join in football in the fall of 2017.
With UAB reinstating football in 2017, there will be 130 FBS football programs at that time. The Sun Belt will now be able to stage a conference championship game like most other FBS conferences do. CCU won't be eligible for postseason play until 2018.
The Sun Belt will split into two divisions and their makeup will be:
East Division
Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
South Alabama
Troy
West Division
Arkansas State
Idaho
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana-Monroe
New Mexico State
Texas State
