Pretty slow on the conference realignment front this year, but there are a couple of changes that take effect starting today.
- Navy leaves the independent ranks and joins the American Athletic Conference. The AAC now has 12 members and will split into divisions and have a championship game for the first time.
- With Navy's departure, it leaves just three Independent FBS schools
- Conference USA adds Charlotte who recently started their football program and moved up from the FCS ranks. The 49ers will be the 13th member of C-USA and will take the place of Alabama-Birmingham who dropped football after last season (at least temporarily)
- No other changes in FBS football, total membership remains at 128 schools
