Well you know, it is all about revenue increases, not wins and losses. That is why Georgia Tech, who created $9.5 million more in revenue than Colorado in 2024 football season, decided to give their coach $11 mil per year. Wait, no he didn't he only made $3.2 mil.
Tennessee created $36 million more in revenue in 2024 than they did in 2023. Considering Colorado only created $50 mil total football revenue in 2024, Heupel should have a contract worth $20 mil per year minimum.

I’m not sure you’re using uniform metrics. Per a quick google search, your numbers on Tennessee are either off, or you’re switching from total revenue to football only revenue in order to make a point.
Deion more than doubled Colorado’s football revenue, and they saw a profit for the time in years.
I think it’d be worth looking at the % change to make your point better. I don’t think Tennessee has ever struggled to put butts in seats, they love their football team. Colorado is full of pseudo-intellectual stoners with next to no interest in football
Doubled it from 2022 to 2023. From 2023 to 2024 the increase was minimal. Regardless even if he doubled it from $25 million to $50 million it is still $110 million less than Tennessee. Both Kansas St and Iowa St both had more revenue than Colorado in 2024. If revenue is the driver of the salary, like has been argued, those coaches should be earning more than Sanders
If your poor performing company hires a CEO that doubles crappy revenue, that doesn’t necessarily make him worth more than the CEO of a company making 3 and 4 times the revenue.
In fact if you are giving the 30-40% of the revenue increase to the CEO salary, one would say it is a poor decision. In this case, Colorado is about maxed out on its revenue streams that can be controlled by Sanders. Stadium is full, merchandise income is what it is. Especially considering he, personally, owns the Coach Prime name and the income generated from the sale of that merchandise. He is hiring more expensive assistants and that is before you even add in his $10 million plus per year.
I personally don’t think the lure of Sanders to the general public is sustainable unless he wins conference titles and plays in the CFP.
They don’t schedule anyone good in the out of conference games. 2028, 2029, 2030 and 2031. The landscape of college football will be different by then, only 2 of the 6 contests are even scheduled to take place before Sanders' deal original 2029 expiration date. So the Missouri and SMU games may take place with another coach, if they even take place at all.
Georgia Tech (2), Delaware, Wyoming, Weber St, Northwestern (2), Colgate, Northern Ill, UMass...all take place before the first scheduled Florida game in 2028.
If your small company goes from never generating a profit to breaking revenue records and generating a profit, it certainly conveys a talent for making money.

You're allowed to think he's not a great football coach while still acknowledging he has put Colorado as an institution in the best position they've been in for decades. Doesn't make you less of a Husker fan, it makes you an honest person. There is no other coach Colorado could reasonably get who would've accomplished this, it's just not in the cards for them.

Finishing 9-3 like they did in 2024 would need to be the norm/floor going forward in order to sustain the interest. I find that unlikely. There are other headwinds to sustaining the exposure; no blue bloods in Big 12, no generational talent winning the Heisman, no Shedeur for fans to love or hate, or Shilo to just hate.
But from CU’s perspective, they had to do what they could to keep him. And that meant overpaying from a pure football standpoint. His association with CU has increased applications and garnered more out-of-state tuition revenue. His is generally well-liked and portrayed well by the media, and that rubs off on CU. He also helps to change the perception of CU/Boulder of being too white.
But I expect his teams going forward will not challenge for conference championships and CFP invites. The novelty and interest will wane, and Deion will leave.
Again record breaking revenues of $50 million is negligible in the world of college football. He is just a fancy salesman with regards to the merchandise sales and the amount of attention he gets simply because he is a HOF football player and has a celebrity status. He started off great in his first season beating TCU and Nebraska but he still ended up 0-6 against teams with winning records. Even though the improved by 5 wins, they only won 3 of 6 games against teams with winning records. So in 2 years, he is 3-9 against teams with winning records and 9-3 against teams with losing records plus a win against ND State.
I suppose in the world of internet and celebrity influencers, he is a successful coach. But as a coach, he just isn't in the realm of the other coaches earning $10 mil per year, most of whom have won, or at least played for a national title or been in a 4 team CFP.
The context of where he did it is important. Most people if they were honest with themselves would admit they've watched more Colorado games in the past 2 years than they did in the past 2 decades. He turned Colorado into a marketable brand, even for the haters like myself.

Rhule is set to make $9.25mm in 2025, so to be consistent, I don't think he's performed like a ~$10mm coach either, but hopefully he does.
I'm sure in a few years both of those contracts will look like bargains.

My comments are consistent on this. There are folks, you included, that are claiming that Sanders is worthy of being a top ten paid coach because he increased Colorado's paltry revenue streams by double. Even though those revenue streams are still middle of the pack in all of FBS football. The other coaches that are currently in that $10 million per year range have either made trips to the CFP, either the 4 team or 12 team, or have won or played for conference titles. Sanders is nothing more than a social media influencer, his teams are 1 game above .500 at Colorado, with 10 of his 13 wins coming against FCS teams or teams with losing records. In the traditional sense of top 10 coaches, he has not reached that level to be paid as such. But because he is a social media influencer and because jock sniffing programs like McAfee's show and College Gameday like to have him on their shows, he gets a ton of publicity. He pushes his own brand whenever possible and most of his appearances are to do nothing but promote himself and to make himself richer. He rarely wears apparel that he isn't profiting from in some way (Coach Prime). As you put it, he is a used car salesman. If that is what you want for a program great, just don't try to convince me that he is worthy of top 10 money because Colorado is a crappy program and he brought them a bunch of media attention.
You're forgetting, or maybe just setting aside, that Colorado needs sanders to make their increased revenue and Tennessee is going to make their money regardless of who their coach is. That's the difference.
I personally question the contract more because I'm not sure Sanders health is going to allow him to coach much longer, but I could be wrong. I get the reason they are doing this. Our longest threads on the nebraska board are about sanders.
