Coach Cooper Calling Out Player on X

“You cannot be disciplined in great things and undisciplined in small things. Brave undisciplined men have no chance against the discipline and valour of other men. Have you seen a few policemen handle a crowd?”

a 3* corner from IMG Academy signed a few days before the December 2022 early period. Had an offer from Kentucky, but mostly several other offers from mid-majors (Ball State). He had a pretty good Spring Game as I recall, stats show 4 tackles, but has not played at all this year.

The odds of him being here next year are probably pretty low.
Are you saying this just because of the Cooper tweet or are there other clues? I liked him as a development guy to play meaningful snaps in 2-3 years. He’s only a freshman in a crowded room.

I'm saying it because of his apparent lack of commitment and because his coach called him out on social media. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he enters the portal.

Maybe because he likes quoting a guy who was a communist, racist (into eugenics), spoke against organized religion, and who thought Hitler and Stalin were great guys. Everything about Shaw was anti-social, confrontational, and down right weird. Oh, yeah, to really put a stake in it Shaw was an anti-VAXer.

I took a philosophy class once and dropped it after the first week because I was asked to make sense out of nonsensical quotes like this put forth by weirdos like Shaw. In this case, if you have never had nothing, nor had everything, then your patience, nor attitude will not be measured making you an "undefined" person. The quote says two things define you, not two things contribute to defining you. So I argue there are many, many things that define a person besides patience/nothing, attitude/everything.

And one more thing in my rant. I believe the spirit of this quote was misapplied by a pampered athlete not getting playing time, so Cooper was right to suggest he cut the BS and do what he is supposed to be doing.

Unfortunately, I agree hedging bets on transfer is most likely.

But…

1. perhaps they have a more joking rapport, and Coop’s response wasn’t too serious.

and… above all…

2. I like the non-quitters so much. SO MUCH!!! Way too many quitters nowadays.
If a kid like this would take that from a coach and actually dig deeper instead of running away?? - those are some of the guys I want. Own it and evolve.
We want them all to be fully mature upon arrival; however, reality of 18 year old kids is they may need to be mentored and grow.

In summary:
Come to Nebraska, let your balls drop (not the ones you’re supposed to catch), learn some humility, and go attack your football career without quitting over some early adversity. That’s the culture.

I definitely agree that the quote is stupid. There’s countless phenomenal athletes that have ridiculous world views, so I won’t let it totally define his time here 😉 Hope Cooper can get his ass in check.

I don't tweet or whatever the f it's called. What did Mitchell say?
Sorry, dont want to link to X, but here is the text:

Mitchell called out Cooper on his response to the initial post - "LOL coming from a guy who's pushed the strength staff to the edge. I can confirm they do not like this kid (cry laugh emoji) Hopefully he can climb his way out of the doghouse

Cooper then responded to Mitchell: Don't do that. He is mine and I love him. No false narratives here brother.

Mitchell always wants to start shit.

This is how I took the exchange....felt like a father/son type exchange to me. I mean even if the kid does need an attitude adjustment or his cage rattled a bit, a public Twitter/X exchange doesn't seem like the appropriate forum to do so and I would hope that with Cooper being the adult, he would not choose to air dirty laundry in that manner. I have no knowledege one way or another, but that was my take on what I saw.

Agree. Seems like this could taken a million different ways. Cooper and him may have had a conversation earlier in the day about someone else, or god knows what. Guessing they are both laughing about the overreaction

Possibly a poor use of sarcasm? IDK 🤷‍♂️ but that doesn’t seem like the type of thing someone (specifically a coach) would laugh about. And he used a laughing emoji.
