Chris Mortensen diagnosed with throat cancer

Without knowing specifics this is generally bad stuff. My son, who is 35, was diagnosed with tongue cancer 6 years ago. They removed half of his tongue and rebuilt it at KU med with his right forearm and rebuilt his arm with his left hip. Never smoked, drank or chewed in his life, just showed up as a tooth ached and sore throat. This type of cancer is on the rise significantly says KU Med. Treatment is at least lots of radiation that destroys taste buds, teeth and everything else in that area along with Chemo. I wish Chris the best in his battle.

I have two friends, both physicians, ironically diagnosed with throat cancer approximately 5-7 years ago. Both are cancer free and golfing as well as ever. Let me know if you need their contact info. I believe both were involved with UNMC for their treatment and subsequent defeat of the awful disease.

Best of luck to Chris! Throat cancer took my grandmother 2 years ago after a 4 year battle. Very low survival rate due to the fact it is often discovered too late. I hope Chris' was diagnosed early!

The article said "Stage 4" which is the most advanced stage. That usually means a strong likelihood that it has spread to other parts of the body. This is real bad news. Let's hope it's something that can be treated and managed.

I admittedly didn't read the article. Sucks to hear... My thoughts are with Chris and his family.
