Langsdorf raves about Eli’s professionalism and unselfishness.
“Here’s a guy who’d been in a system 10 years and we come in and we’re changing his footwork, we’re changing some ways that he had read some plays, signals, terminology. And he was very receptive, willing to learn, willing to change, willing to try something different.
"Some guys would be stubborn that way and he was nothing but receptive. And if he had a thought about a different way to do something, he would voice that. But it wasn’t ‘I’m not doing that.’ It was ‘Hey, what would you think about trying it this way?’”
His experience with Eli has helped Langsdorf with Tommy Armstrong and the Husker quarterbacks. He has a "greater appreciation," he said, for what Armstrong was taught in the past.
“Rather than just saying, ‘This is how we do it, shut your mouth,’ it can be a much healthier working relationship. There’s some things that I have to demand, this is how it’s gotta be. But I also know that he has done things a certain way and maybe there’s a better way to do it.”
Maybe it’s the way Armstrong looks at a play or the way he reads a defensive end on a zone read. Maybe it’s something simpler, like the way Armstrong “holds the laces a little different.”
“Rather than just making him do it my way or the highway, we can at least have a discussion.”
Langsdorf shows his quarterbacks film of Eli Manning, but he tries not to reference Eli too much.
“I don’t think they want to hear about it. They’re trying to just be them and they don’t to have to be like Eli all the time.”
