CharMar Brown. RB

He’s considered one of the top portal RBs available. Sounds like a good pick up, but I don’t get too excited anymore until I see the kid perform.

I follow recruiting pretty closely. I always have. And I heard nothing about this kid when he came out of Creighton Prep. Then he goes up to NDSU and balls out. He's going to be highly sought after-- just a sophomore, clean injury history.

In other news, I heard a couple Nebraska kids who are up in Brookings are transferring to Washington State.

That makes sense considering thier HC took the Washington state job.

He is perfect for the level he is at IMO.
He's getting inquiries from SEC level programs. He's from Omaha.
He won the Jerry Rice Award, given to the national freshman of the year at the FCS level. He was also named an FCS Freshman All-American.
He's perfect for any level.
I'm not saying he would be the starter, but he would immediately contend for playing time.
The only question is, do they want to spend the money to get him?

South Dakota State has had 2 RBs drafted in the last 3 years. Both were active roster guys last year. Huskers haven’t had an RB drafted in ten years. So there’s that.

Is CharMar better than what we have? Well Our current penciled in #2 RB was going to Monmouth before EJ was hired and offered him. And he probably could finish his college days at a place like Monmouth when it’s all said and done. And he’s our #2, a guy who gets a lot of snaps. So yeah; CharMar is way way better than what we have. Maybe not better than Emmett but just as good and different

We just missed on CharMar the first time. It happens.

I’m with you on being a #2.

Just saying he’s an 11.9 guy and not a game-breaker.

It’s possible he’s a late bloomer but I didn’t think he looked overly fast when I watched him this year.
I didn't think he looked the fastest either, but I do like his vision and how he runs between the tackles. He's got the right size 5-11 218lbs if my memory is correct, to be an inside runner, who we don't really have outside of EJ, and the only other back we have that matches this profile would be Booth, who is still unproven at this level. The new kid is small, and #2 is basically a tall lanky wideout imo. I hope we can get him, he would be a more proven #2 as PTC stated above.

And that’s what is needed. A 5 to 6 yard back workhorse to match Emmette. think people get too wrapped up in 40s sometimes, cause man I’d have taken Skattebo in a heart beat. But everyone has always said “too slow” about him but I bet UT didn’t think so.

We desperately need a 2nd back. I’ve been around to know that those little “atta boys” we get from the coaches on Ives and Nelson could be words of encouragement to try to help them vs actual praise. I give “atta boys” to my weak staff and “gotta do betters” to the strong ones. Thats been my experience in sports and the military too. You praise the weak to help build confidence, you criticize the strong to get more out of them.

I agree. Everyone gets caught up in 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Give me someone that can average 4-5 yards and occasionally break a 20+ yard run would be fantastic

Exactly, go get those tuff 5 to 6 yards on 1st and 10 when the hole just isn’t there. 2nd and 4 is beautiful. 2nd and 9 isn’t

We need to start dealing with reality. Our talent has been shit. It probably doesn't get any better then a fcs freshman who majorly produced and won. Throw in the fact he's a local kid and it's a no brainer. I don't care about his track time or measurables.

I love these kids but I'm always gonna be the wait and see guy. Don't care what he did in HS or lower level football. I'll judge it once I see how it translates to the BIG. Anybody doing otherwise can't say for certain. Hell we don't even know what Ives, Booth, Parker or the other kid we got last year are going to be. I actually don't mind taking the kid but as to how good he is we don't truly know.

My guess is this is why he wasnt highly recruited out of HS. Don't have to be a blazer but speed matters. If I'm being honest outside of Parker we don't have a blazer at the position. Can he see the hole, good instincts, cut quickly, good balance, explosive? All those things are just as important. Doesn't have to be a HR hitter which it seems he's not.

Yeah, I have no idea if this kid can play or not. I do know NDSU has the best offensive lines every year in FCS.

Plenty of average Husker I backs racked up good yardage behind pipeline lines.

If he comes in to Nebraska one or two will go out, it's just the way things work with the portal. I like his physical workman style of running, something we haven't had too much of for awhile.

He isn't coming to Nebraska. I predict he will end up at Cal
It seems the only people who don’t think NU needs to add another depth chart quality back are the coaches. Someone is going to overpay this kid and that is not how NU is operating in the portal.

If the coaches are satisfied they wouldn’t have pursued this kid and got him to visit.and yes no reason to overpay

Why do you say that
He clearly isn't leaving NDSU to be a backup. Nebraska and Miami both have guys in place to get the a majority of the 1st team carries. Cal just lost 5 RBs to the portal. There is a need there, he will be the starting RB. The only question would be the money they could pay. I just don't think it will be solely about the money
