CB Killebrew N!! And another WR N soon?

It's a sad day to me when all of the walk-ons get eliminated by the NCAA roster mandate. Nebraska football always meant to me that it was an opportunity for kids to have a shot at realizing their dream to play for the Huskers or at least suit up. But life is change after change these days so I guess we have to move on even if those changes aren't always for the best.

Thanks. I assumed we had around that many walk ons, but I was not certain. It is sad, isn't it, to see the walk on tradition die? I think the NCAA is making a mistake with these 105 roster limits.
Yeah, it’s stupid that the NCAA can dictate how many players a team can have. If you are organized enough to manage more players practicing, which is more doable with the larger coaching staffs now, it should be up to each school.

Yeah, I think there should be an "active roster" requirement (like 85), and then allow programs to have walk-ons on the practice roster.

With the 105, we can basically go 4 deep at every position, plus an extra handful on each side of the ball. This is the 4-deep at WR, as I see it now. Am I missing anyone?

Key Barney Hunter
Mills Moze Gilmore
Clark Bonner Smith
Jones Carpenter *Wilson
will be interesting to see what the staff do with Bonner this offseason

kind of a tweener, but versatile and doesn't seem to mind the dirty work

will never be a gamebreaker on the outside. I can see him playing a similar role to Haarberg if he beefs up a little.

Could be off by 1 or 2, but I counted 151 players on the 2024 roster. That means 66 walk-ons.
Walk ons or players receiving NIL to cover the costs. Either way it was probably closer to 95 or 100 that were receiving some sort of scholarship or NIL equivalent.

Again, go down the roster, the players you have never heard of, the seniors and the players that graduated but weren't on the 2 deep, and the players that already transferred and cross them off, add in incoming transfers and freshmen. You will find yourself at a number less than 97.

i would not be surprised to see the effect of the 105 limit will be greater parity and a means for mid tier and upper mid tier to accumulate quality players. there has been a flood of great players in the SEC. and all that talent wealth stayed there---now they will move to other conferences and other programs and the higher quality players will supplant lesser. quality of play will improve.

The SEC has already been hurt vs. what it was a few years ago by NIL Now that all colleges can legitimately arrange to pay for players the SEC schools have lost their one-time advantage of paying players under the table.

Either way, I think we are well positioned. We have infrastructure and staff designed to handle 150+ players. Now devote all that money and energy into 105.

just moving around a lot of deck chairs and paying out lots of money if you ask me.. the quality going into the portal and coming out of the portal is pretty much the same crap as what you had.. only the collectives are paying for this "movement"..
I'm guessing you'd probably get a better return on investment at an Iowa stripclub, although to be fair, you'd also catch an std for your troubles.
