I thought it was in response to the Iowa state patrol 'guarding' the logo at midfield, preventing NU from conducting their usual pregame prayer routine.

Right or wrong, we’ve all seen several pre-game scuffles over the years when an opposing team purposefully occupies the home team’s mid-field logo. It’s kind of ridiculous but it’s a thing. Have to believe the officers were there to prevent a tussle. It worked, I guess.
