Callahan left cupboard bare for Pelini...or did he?

Some on here like to claim as proof we have no talent will be by looking at the All Big 10 teams at year end to see who is on it from Nebraska. I don't think we really know what kind of talent we have due to the poor coaching job we have seen this year, especially on defense.

According to the 2007 All Big 12 teams, it appears Callahan didn't have any good players on the the team and left the cupboard completely bare for Bo Pelini. That year we had 2 players listed on the 2nd team All Conference Offense. No All Conference Players on Defense. No 1st team All Conference players.

We all know that wasn't the case and many future All Conference players were already sitting on the roster and helped propel Pelini to initial success in his first couple years after Pelini began working with them.

My point is many are blaming Bo now for the talent he left us with. While I agree, his recruiting was not where it needed to be to win championships, who really knows what type of talent we might have with the current coaching going on?

I am certain we have more than enough talent to beat the likes of Northwestern, Illinois and Purdue.

Judging the All Conference team at year end really doesn't tell us about our talent level when then coaching is terrible (both Callahan 2007 and Riley 2015).

**Just so we are clear, didn't like Pelini at all and this was not meant to be in defense of him as a coach here at Nebraska.

When you play like complete crap as a team you tend to look worse than you really are. Obviously some gaps need filling but if we didn't kill ourselves in many cases we probably wouldn't be having this discussion right now..

Why do people keep saying we start 2 walk-on DEs? Last I checked McMullen is not a walk-on. Freedom did just come back and was a little limited but he is our best DE and he certainly isn't a walk-on. Gangwish came to NU as a walk-on but he has been on scholly for the last couple years. He isn't an all-american, but definitely a scholarship worthy player for most Big 10 teams.

By the way, we didn't start that walk-on QB in our other 5 losses this year...Team is broken, they were losing to Pursue no matter which QB on our roster played.

What I wonder is if we have those guys on the roster but they're currently on the bench and may never see the field...for Nebraska
