BYU won

I read on twitter, that there will still be suspensions. We just won't hear about who until after the Nebraska game.

He's not telling anybody in advance who won't play, but he'll announce after the game who didn't play due to suspension. That's how I read it.

I'll be pretty surprised if the center Koroma or the safety Nacua play. Plus a few others that aren't as important.

They are not announcing suspensions until right before kickoff. That means they could very easily not suspend a single starter. I personnally believe their center was going to be suspended, but their back up center play has completely hindered their ability to make calls at the LOS and even snap the football that Mendenhall has changed his mind.

Those Mormons always on the up and up. Thuggery and sexual assault is ok, caffeine? Get out of here you sinner!!!

They ARE suspending players. They ARE NOT announcing who it is. In case you haven't noticed, NU also has not announced its suspensions.

Bronco Mendenhall on suspensions--- wow.

"The suspensions, or the issues, happened so long ago, and quite frankly if it were up to me, completely, I am not sure you can punish the kids more than they have already been punished, in terms of the scrutiny," Mendenhall said. "What are we going to do to them now that is going to make more of a point? And so I am not the only one who makes the decisions in this case. But as far as I am concerned, with the attention, and what the players get, and rightly so at BYU, I don't know what else needs to happen for them to have learned their lesson."

Glad it's not just up to him. Guys like Koroma who started the whole thing with a shove and was in the middle of the scrum and Nacua who sucker-punched a Memphis player from behind have not, by NCAA regulations, been punished enough. The appropriate way of handling that massive fight would be what, a stern talking-to and running the stairs a few times?

I would be embarrassed if our players were in that fight, at times instigating it, and Riley said that some media scrutiny (without even naming names) was punishment enough.

Riley will announce the names of our player suspensions prior to the game. He waiting until a day or two before so they don't face additional unnecessary scrutiny. They all know already and I'm sure the coaches have been preparing accordingly...

That wasn't just a scuffle in that game for BYU...that was a full out brawl. Remember the BYU bball player that was suspended for the entire season for violating their "honor code" for hooking up with another coed? That's peanuts compared to the violence of in game brawl on national tv but whatever...Mendenhall's explanation on letting the public know afterwards is baloney at the highest level. They don't want to be embarrassed if they have play a center that can't snap the ball. He also knows if they don't show well in this game that the suspensions excuse won't cut it either.

Ease up, folks. Bronco is just not divulging any info any sooner than he has to. Suspensions will happen, and they will be apparent come game time which can't get here soon enough.

What a joke. The Head Coach doesn't expect any kind of accountability out of his players, or doesn't want to make them accountable. They are 18-22 year olds and kids make mistakes, but you have to do something.

FWIW, from cougar.corner:

"Koroma will not be suspended. According to @byupractice who seems to be pretty dialed in, Nacua, Takitaki, and Dye are suspended for that game and Langi is suspended for half of the game."

Wasn't Koroma the instigator in the initial fight that started the entire brawl?

I think so. It'll get interesting to see who gets suspended.
I would prepare like none of them are. Play our game. The Mormons are dirty, and have magic underpants helping them. Cheaters!

From a BYU fan site, byuinsider.com, (more there) "The first physical act was Tejan Koroma (BYU #56) pushed Josh Augusta (Memphis #97) in the back. To retaliate 'a Memphis player threw the first punch'. Koroma and Augusta continue to go at each other with teammates pouring in to help/separate."

Koroma is #56. His shove started the whole thing and I don't see a valid argument that he was just defending himself from there. If he's not suspended it's transparently because they don't have a backup center and they're playing Koroma despite that because they need him to have a chance in the game.

If he's not suspended time for VV and Collins to get into his head early and often. We saw what Gregory was able to do to the Miami linemen last year. Get him frustrated and throw some smack and see how he reacts.

Boom. Let him play and let our boys kick his a**.

I don't see anyway they couldn't suspend the players that were involved in the fight, because it isn't up to them, it is an NCAA rule.
Rule 9-5-1-b
During the half-time intermission, squad members in uniform or coaches shall not participate in a fight. During the second half, players shall not participate in a fight

PENALTY—15 yards. For dead-ball fouls, 15 yards from the succeeding spot. Automatic first down for Team B fouls if not in conflict with other rules. Disqualification for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next game [S7, S27 or S38, and S47]. For fighting in the last game of a season, those with remaining eligibility shall serve suspensions during the first game of the next season for which they are eligible.

Based on this rule, at the very least the players involved should be suspended for the first half of the next game, since the fight occured in the second half. The only thing I'm not sure of is how to exactly apply the rule, since the fight actually occured after the game was over, obviously the players weren't able to be kicked out for the remainder of the game. Based on how I read that, any players involved in the fight should have been suspended for the next game at the very least, by NCAA rule, and since, as the rule states, the fight occured in the last game of the season, any players involved with eligibility remaining in the next season should serve suspensions during the first game.

Does it make a difference since the game was over? The incident occurred after the last game of the season.

That's what I'm not sure about. There was nothing I could find in the rule book that specifically talked about something happening post game like this, and I've tried searching but couldn't find any clarification.

BYU might as be an atheist school with these dirt bag values. The U would even suspend the 11 players. Bronco sounds like a 2 bit banana republic coach.

Yeah, what a shocking turn of events. It's usually the atheist schools that get caught up in point-shaving scandals, try to cover up the murder of basketball players or manage to get the death penalty for their football programs.

Val-yews. You don't actually have to have 'em. Just blather on about them on a daily basis.

Lets leave the Mormons out of it can we? The BYU football coach and his decisions are NOT necessarily reflective of the Mormons. I know lots of Mormons and have found them to be very good people. I disagree with their doctrine but the guys I have known have been very good people. The tone of some of these posts is disgusting. Some of this has crossed the line.

Nah. I will keep doing it. Hypocrisy is hypocrisy

Just take in the whole human race then because it aint just the Mormons that are hypocrites. We ALL practice that fault and being a Christian, Mormon, Jew, Atheist, take your pick religion or lack of religion it makes no difference. For instance the "Greenies" that all get in their cars and drive 300 miles to a protest march about global warming. We're all imperfect and from the Mormons I've known, they are the least of our country's problems.

BYU is owned and operated by the LDS church. If the leadership at any level is dictating that NCAA rules be damned, we're going to play our center and others to be competitive in one of our two real games this year, or they allow a subordinate to make that decision to buck the responsibility, the the LDS church is going to see quite a bit of stain over this in the eyes of CFB fans, at the very least among NU fans.

The Mormons you or I know, aren't in charge of large, visible, public facing institutions of the Church either. Now if you and the Prophet are best buds and have beers on the weekend, you certainly roll in another circle than me, but my closest Mormon friend just picked up Tech SGT in the USAF and was raised in Illinois but is a Georgia fan. Not exactly high profile and no one is holding him responsible for the Mormon views as a whole.

Me personally, if it hasn't been made clear in the media, I'm hoping that what BYU meant by the statement was that the players will still be rightfully suspended, but the coach is just not saying officially who it was until after the game. That little bit of gamesmanship can be tolerated as it is at least ethical.

If they plan on reserving punishment for another more opportune time, I'm not cool with that.
