Taking my family there for a vacation what are some of the best places to eat. I like to places unique to an area but some chain restaurants are good to

Cracker Barrel comes to mind. I would suspect on every corner. Winking

There is no good food in Branson. I am there several times a year for work. Its all nasty. Stick to chains if you are dining out.

A few things I would recommend though are the titanic museum and the zipline place outside of town. The ones in town suck.

Ton's of chains here in Branson, a few restaurants we like, I personally don't like chains

Danna's BBQ is good and local

Billy Gail's for breakfast

Indian Clay Oven if you like Indian food

Any Big Cedar/top of rock restaurant.... food pretty good and mostly paying for atmosphere

Keeter Center (run by students at the college, Hard work U where they work to cover their tuition), have a really good brunch on Sundays but will need reserverations

Copper run is a fun moonshine distillery in the woods that my wife worked at for a while, have live music most sat afternoons I believe (No food though)

Lived in the area since 84....some of the friendliest people you would ever want to meet...Branson is not a foodie town...the above recommendations are solid...have fun....

Mrs. Sparky & I pulled the camper down there a couple years ago. If you want to have an entertaining dinner take in the Dixie Stampede. Tons of food and the kids will love it. Entertaining and fun.

You've had some good advice here, and I'll add my take. Please don't listen to the jackasses crapping on Branson. My guess is whoever they went with had no plan or was just no fun. I went since I was a kid and many of my family/friends have kids that go every year and have a great time. People think you have to go to shows in Branson--you don't have to. Some are fun, some aren't. I've only been to a few and Dixie Stampede was a pretty good suggestion. I suggest trying to go to Silver Dollar City with the kids during the week (not on the weekend) if you can. There are two days for the price of one tickets out there. Go and plan on going for a long time and don't simply focus on rides. But even if you don't go there, you can still have a lot of fun. Ok, onto food...

Dannas BBQ is very, very good. The best one IMO is actually located in Branson West, but it's all good.

McFarlains is in the IMAX theatre. No alcohol, but good food and big servings. We get the catfish every time, it's the best.

Out on Branson Landing there is the White River Fish House. It is very good and a great, unique setting. Get the Spinach Artichoke for appietizer. Really a must hit, IMO.

Also on Branson Landing is a new place called Missouri Mountain Moonshine. I've heard it has good food-maybe more of a lunch spot with good burgers--but they will give you free samples of their moonshine at the bar. Tip the bartender and ask for every flavor and to try one or two a second time and you will be feeling really, really good after just ten minutes.

There are a few restaurants in old downtown. One is called the Farmhouse Restaurant, the other is Branson Cafe. Old Diner types. Check them out on tripadvisor.

Billy Gail's was mentioned, it's west of Branson and has long lines every morning.

If you like cajun food, there's a place called Crazy Cajun Citchen outside of Branson. Google it if Cajun interests you.

I've heard good things about Vasken's Deli.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Baldknobbers restaurant and Montana Mike's.

If you've got more questions, fire away.

I am not familiar with Danna's bbq. Will have to try it next trip.

Silver Dollar City is a good time too.

There is a dinner cruise that we took a few years ago at the Landing called Main St Lake Cruises.
We took the evening cruise up river. The food was good and plentiful. We'd do it again. Also, there was a Mexican place on the west end that was decent.
GBR Ed.

I have very fond childhood memories of Branson, but you can't deny that it sells its own brand of cornball folksy cheesiness, and is still where country and western careers go to die. It actually makes me sort of sad when I hear of one of my dad's favorite artists playing there, because it means that their career is on the downhill slide.

I'll tell you what is NOT cornball...the golf experiences there...love playing there....

And the topography in general is nice. It's the closest that we Midwesterners can get to being in the mountains without actually being in the mountains. The overwhelming tourist trap feel of the place is what turns me off to it.

I agree with the tourist trap thing in spades...we stay near the lake, go golf, stay out of the trappie areas....

Reed Springs Pizza has an all you can eat pasta deal (I believe on Wednesday) that is excellent. The food is great and a unique spin on a pasta bar. Its not food that has been sitting in warmer trays all day. You select the ingredients they cook it and bring it to you. Nothing fancy but it is worth a try.

What amazes me is how people go there and seem clueless that there is a lake with 90,000 miles of shoreline two minutes away with a lot of great resorts full of wonderful views and plenty of boat rentals.
If anyone reading this is thining about going to branson and has always stayed in Branson, go find a resort on Indian Point and stay there on the lake. Right by SDC, ten minutes from Branson, go when you want, get out when you want. Don't have a boat? Most resorts rent them cheaper than the marina will. Do your research on the internet about these places. If you have some money, look at homeaway for some condos. there's some great ones close to Branson and again, on this great, big, clear and beautiful lake.
And Du, as I said before, we don't do shows, so we don't care what "old" acts are there. You don't have to go to any shows in Branson to have a good time.

Music and food arguments. As the board police would say when they don't have any input and a topic angers them... "stick to football!!!"

Branson is a traffic jam with faux hillbillies the real ones sold their land and left a long time ago. Come to Lake of the Ozarks room to breathe and adults have a lot of options (did I mention party cove) you can sit on your own private dock and the hordes of tourists are weekend pests with the week free for the residents to enjoy themselves . Upscale housing lakeside is very pricey but the taxes are low.All in all the Qzark hills experience without all the man made visual clutter.

I'd go back to Lake of the Ozarks, too, if I wasn't going to Table Rock. That place has negatives as well, however...bunch of drunks driving a million boats at times. And if you don't own your own boat like most people who visit Branson there is not as much to do, while for example there's this great big theme park right by Table Rock with a lot of stuff for kids and adults. I'm not trying to argue with you--I'm glad you enjoy LOTO and it's certainly a great place to visit (and live im sure), but the Branson tri-lake area gets a bad reputation because people don't know what it actually offers other than shows for old people. Don't go to them.
Sit on your own private dock? Weeks calmer and quieter than the weekends? Stuff for adults to do? Sounds a lot like my vacations to Table Rock. Which is what I was trying to get across in my post--people need to stop staying inside Branson and going to shows, and instead stay on on the lake and go to Branson when they have a specific attraction in mind and then get out.

Let them have their ignorance. Why would you want to attract more people to your area? Crowded lakes suck without asking for more people.

Touche.
Stay away, people. I'm lying to you. Nothing to do. Party Cove is better!

Big difference between living and visiting as a tourist The wait staff at the waterside bars having been through the ringer of the summer and the crowds throw one last party just for themselves it is call TGATFTAG.

The real difference between the Branson and Lake of the Qzarks experience - the first 27 rows in front of all the bars at LOTO are not handicapped parking only! I know I will soon need one but not just yet

Lake of the Ozarks you have to be shitting me. I don't mean all the old private sewage systems leaking raw sewage into the lake. Make sure your shots are current. Lake of the Ozarks is a private lake no rules.

Yeah, the real hillbillies left Branson and went to Lake of the Ozarks to get drunk on the lake, ram their boats into one another, and encourage plump women to take their tops off and embarrass themselves and the entire human race. Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

Lake of the Ozarks does not compare to Table Rock in terms of natural beauty and topography, at least not the parts of the lake near the dam. I grew up in Kimberling City, so take that judgment for what it's worth ;).

The lake is owned by Ameren Power since they built it in the 30's and trust me they keep a tight reign on the place as does the state water control people. I have a $25,000 septic system and you do nothing without their approval. It is not your grandfathers lake anymore.

Agree, why stay in Branson with all the nice resorts around the lake. The best by far is Big Cedar owned by Bass Pro in Ridgedale just a short 10 minute drive south of Branson. The resort is located on like 800 acres and has both lodges and cabins for rent. Top of the Rock (also owned by Bass Pro) is near the resort and is the best 9 hole par 3 golf course in the world. The PGA Masters play a tournament there every year. It's not cheap to either play golf or eat at one of the restaurants on the property but it's worth every penny if you can afford it! As far restaurants in Branson, If you like Mexican the Pancho Villa is pretty good located near the Americana theater.
