I have seen several comments on this Board about the excuse that Riley is handcuffed by Bo's players. I am thinking back to last year where we beat a better Miami team and took a top 5 Michigan State team to the last play of the game.
Where was Saturday's roster worse than last year? I say RB and DE are the only spots. DE is questionable as Gregory missed a lot of gametime and most on here viewed him as a liability against the run.
DL - returns 3 of 4 starters, all backups and all 4 starters from the last 2 games of the year.
LB - returns our best LB (MRI) and our other starter in Banderas. Not a deep unit but still better than a year ago.
Secondary-lost Cooper and Mitchell but returned our all conference safety. I don't see a roster of worse talent there.
OL- Was the loss of Cotton that big of a deal. I think most would believe we upgraded the OL
QB-Far better than last year
WR-Better unit as a whole
TE-Better as Carter was back
RB-Huge drop-off
They other excuse I heard was the competition was better. Miami losing their stud LB, OL, RB, and WR to the NFL somehow makes them better but us losing RG and AA makes our roster far worse?
And yes we fought back to almost win the game. But the game was the same as Michigan State last year...we were manhandled until Miami went conservative. We should have lost by 30 but thankfully Miami tried to let us win.
