There are likely 15 more guys that will hit the portal by tomorrow afternoon
And, did I miss something? He is a redshirt frosh this season, how could he have 4 years of eligibility remaining?
So far only been about 3-4 guys I hate to lose. I'm sure there will be some more but as Huskers fans we have to look at this realistically. We as fans often times fall in love with these players stories. The familiarity is easily embraced. Fact of the matter is we have never won more than 6 games with anyone on this roster. That's got to mean something. I love our guys but am able to separate the fact that most of them haven't been very good football players for whatever reason.
I think the fact that we lose a ton of these guys and get to try and replace them with better more productive players is a blessing in disguise. Imagine if the HC came in and starting basically "cutting" familiar players or local players. Imagine the outrage that wouldve came with that. Now they get the opportunity to do just that and start a new with guys whom have a chance to be better. Guys who may not consider themselves snake bitten.
As much as I'd like to keep a few of these guys I'm more interested in winning games. I'm more interested in going to bigger bowls and eventually maybe a playoff. Imo although this entire thing seems like a clusterf#@+ I think it'll be a good thing for us immediately and long term.

This is the type of “development” player who is being influenced by the 105 and portal environment. I was on a plane with him when he was being recruited. He’s small.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up at UCF.

Yup, our secondary was a mess riddled with injuries and underwhelming play. And if you can’t find minutes (especially with the new 4 game redshirt rule) here then…
He’s been out of the game a couple years. But Bootle did commit to him, could be one of the only kids around he still has some connection to.
Plus Bootle is from Florida and his brother played for Frost.
Medical redshirt first year, traditional redshift this year since he only appeared in 3 games.
Makes a lot of sense. But there is still the question of whether he has enough upside given his size. It will be interesting to see which familiar coaches and players end up with Frost. Maybe he pulls Fidone.

Before anybody gets their panties in a wad most of those guys will be walk-ons and some of that number will maybe go through spring ball hoping to earn a scholarship. Some will just quit. Scholarship guys who aren’t in the 3 deep and are sophomores and older will be in jeopardy
I think we are at 138 right now, with EJ coming back. So we need to lose 33 to get to 105 and probably another 10-15 for portal guys. Going to be a wild couple weeks.
I have meetings stacked up all AM tomorrow. I feel like I’m going to get on this board at noon to find out we’ve had 40 guys enter the portal.
