took a look at the league leaders and here is what I found for players already signed and it's probably where we should be going.

I saw that Minnesota also had something like 6 early signees... Are all of these applied to 2015, or what's he deal? I am not familiar with an early signing option for recruits...

Not sure how they count those for certain but they probably got options. Minnesota has three JC players in the early signing and I think the Big Ten leaders are all high school grads.

It really is more of an administrative issue on which year they are applied to. An EE can be applied to either year and which year it is is depends on if you have room in the year before...think cell phone roll over minutes...if you didn't use all your 25 a year alotment from the year before you can backdate kids so that you can take more going forward.

The real number is 85. You always have to be on/under that. That means at all times and not just during the season. For example, if you have kids who just finished their final season of football but you are giving them one more semester to finish their degree they still count. Thus you have a limited number of EEs you can take based on 85 minus returning players minus those who you allow to finish their degrees...

I hope that made sense

And fwiw...it's not quite the same thing as "signing"...unlike a LOI it is not binding until the kid actually starts receiving financial aid...he can sign the papers and back out up until he goes to campus and receives aid

Thanks for the example, I understand how it works retroactively... I am just talking about Minnesota having 6 players already having signed their letter of intent. It must mean those six are EEs and applying to 2015 I guess? Otherwise rivals wouldn't have them listed as signed letter of intent... Correct?

Edit: I see the same for Michigan and 7 who have already signed LOIs. All EEs? Or why are they listed as signed?

I guess it is a matter of rivals semantics which isn't "technically" correct. We have 7 EEs who have not only signed their aid papers but are now on campus because Michigan has already started the semester. They never actually signed a LOI but it acts the same way as they are on campus and started classes...the being on campus and starting classes part is what makes it the same as signing a LOI.

I appreciate all the help here. What's interesting is they haven't done that for Nebraska's early enrollee...

All that really matters is the names on the dotted line come February 4.
