=======================================

Penn State 68, Nebraska 65
Penn State picked up their first win in the Big Ten Tournament since making a run to the final in the 2011 tourney with a 68-65 win over Nebraska in the opening game. The Nittany Lions nearly didn't make it after letting a 16-point second-half lead dwindle to one point in the final seconds of the contest. Shavon Shields missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.

The Nittany Lions used a 14-1 run in the second half in what looked like was going to be a runaway victory before the Huskers came back. The Huskers lost their ninth straight game. Dating back to when the Big 8 Tournament started in 1977, the Huskers are now 17-38 all-time in conference tournament play (Big 8, Big 12, Big Ten). Penn State set a Big Ten Tournament record by recording 16 blocked shots against Nebraska.

For the game, Nebraska was 19-of-63 (30.2%) from the floor, 5-of-14 (35.7%) from the three point line and just 22-of-31 (71%) at the free throw line. Penn State shot 23-of-55 (41.8%) from the floor, 9-of-22 (40.9%) at the arc and 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the charity stripe. Nebraska pulled down 51 rebounds compared to just 34 for Penn State. Nebraska committed one more turnover in the game, 14 to 13.

Individually, Terran Petteway led all scorers with 29 points. Shavon Shields added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the only other Husker to score in double-digits. Moses Abraham came off of the bench to also pull down 10 rebounds.

Penn State was led by D.J. Newbill who scored 26 points shile Shep Garner added 19. Penn State was led on the glass by Devin Fosetr, with seven rebounds.

This ends the season for the Nebraska men's basketball team. With David Rivers, Trevor Menke, Moses Abraham, Kyle Kurkowski and Leslee Smith all playing their final games at Nebraska.
