Betts and IGC on scholarship list

Chubba-Smothers-Haarburg-Torres
Tyreke Johnson
Seth Malcom
Pola Gates
R Buckley
Shawn Hardy
Braxton Clark
Farmer

A lot of others out there. Probably a minimum of 2 other WR and probably a couple of the skinny TEs like Carnie and Hickman.

Farmer? He started last year. Would also hate to see Buckley go with our DL depth being so thin.

Not saying these guys should go or anything like that, but I think every room has guys that could look for greener pastures soon.

QB: At least one will go, probably Cubby and/or Smothers being upper class men looking at being 3rd string on the depth chart.

RB: Emmet Johnson, is 5th string and they brought in a HS recruit.

TE: Brodie and Hickman could both be candidates.

OL: Is Lynn still around?

WR: Agree on Hardy. Probably more. Is Hill good enough to stick at WR? What about Jones?

DL: With Weaver, Black and Newsome all entering the portal, Nelson and Mathis entering the draft and Fiest hanging them up; this room might need to keep everyone they can.

LB: Agree on Malcom, kind of seems like a guy without a position that could look for a better situation if he isn’t going to get PT.

DB: Agree Johnson, Clark and Gates could bounce in search of a starting spots. Lynum, Morton, Singleton could all be in that same boat.

That is something like 15 guys. Which is way I’m not too worried about us over signing right now.

Farmer is slow and someone might take his spot. I agree on depth but we have to start cutting non contributors and Buckley is that so far. WR and RB are definitely going to need cuts. It’ll all play itself out but hopefully people aren’t all pissed off after spring ball. Change is good at this point

On the QBs you list 4 do you think they all leave? I can see 2-3 of them

Geez us. We need Buckley to stay as well as Carnie. Clark’s probably still in the 2 deep. I think people need to chill and let the staff decide who needs to move on.

We don’t what a kid like Buckley can do, as he is only going into his third year. He wasn’t going to play on the interior last year and was behind about 5 guys at DE. His measureables look good for a DE in a 3 man front.

Smothers should definitely leave and go to an FCS team if he wants to play quarterback.
I would rather see Haarberg and Torrez move on. They were both lapped by a walk on on the depth chart last fall. Smothers at least has game experience. We can win games with Smothers in an offense that uses TEs and a fullback. I’m sure he would be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart by fall but damn we shouldn’t discount his experience and athletic ability. I hope both Smothers and Purdy stay.

I don't think Scholly numbers matter anymore. NIL will pick up the slack. These guys could all stay on board and utilize NIL funds vs official scholarship dollars.

Didn’t he come in at 17 years old too? Gonna take awhile for someone like that to develop on the lines

I would imagine Purdy might stay and everyone else bolts, but who knows. Not one of those 4 guys is ever going to play a down again unless something nuts happens.,
Purdy played last season because he was Whipple's guy. I've not seen him do anything on a football field that would indicate he should be on the depth chart over Smothers. A positive thing about this coaching turnover is that they'll both get a fresh evaluation, since neither one was recruited by the current staff. Assuming that CT comes back healthy, I don't see a scenario where they're both on the the roster after fall camp.

I believe all of our additions are coming in on scholarships so the numbers will matter to the guys who are told in May that their scholarship is switching to non-football and if they want to play they have to transfer. Lots of time still though and who knows if all of the incoming freshmen make it to campus next fall.

I thought Purdy showed flashes of what he could be in his last game. JMO and I don’t think it’s smart to wish him gone.

IMHO it is difficult to really evaluate the QBs on the roster from past performance. As they say: future results cannot be determined by past performance. The reason is the "cats" in the QB room had their heads so filled up with mush by Harry Potter, they couldn't just play football. Look how serviceable Adrian became at KSU when focused on fundamentals. In 2021 in 11 games he had 3 fumbles lost and 1 in 2022 in 10 games (similar rushing yards both years). In 2021 he had 10 picks and in 2022 he had 1 pick (roughly half as many attempts and completion yards in 2022). Completion % 61.8 in 2021, 64.1 in 2022. I suggest it is hard to speculate who will move on until after the spring practice with a legitimate QB coach.

Watch that game again

Pulling the ball down after your primary read is not open =/= “flashes”

Kid has a wet noodle for an arm & is a deer in the headlights. Is what it is.

Purdy is awful, I just doubt he transfers again is all I am saying. CT and Sims will probably Duke it out and then after that there is probably a massive drop off. I wouldn't mind if Rhule found 1 more QB.

I actually think Rhule would like a guy like Martinez on the roster.

I think with NIL. Those guys can lose their scholly and the dollars won't change. NIL will simply replace the cost of school.

But they have to leave the team regardless if their scholarship isn’t renewed. The B1G and NCAA might allow you to put them on a non-football scholarship but then then can’t participate in the sport. The ship is guaranteed but participation ends if you’re not on a football scholarship.

Why? Kids can be on a team without being on scholarship. Right? Like a walkon is? Im not following what your laying down.
