Leading Arizona 1-0, top of the 5th. Would be a nice bounceback win after last night's bludgeoning.

The video qual is a lot better than yesterday. Good to see we're not getting blown out. Only 1-0 so let's hope for more run support. GBR

Yeah hard to say how long they'll let Meyers go, given that it's only his second outing. I guess the good thing about last night's game being a blowout is that there was no temptation to use the top guys out of the pen, so they should be pretty fresh.

Meyers gives Arizona their first loss of the season 1-0.

Great job Jake.

Today was pretty big. Would have been nice to get in all 4 the first weekend. The team has already seen some of the best pitching it will face all year. Averages should climb like crazy the next 3-4 weeks.

The kid from Skutt still continues to impress early. Looking forward to getting out and seeing what these new guys look like.

The next 14 are against weak competition, we should at the very least go 12-2. I understand we haven't looked good, but this home stretch is there for a reason.

Understood. This game can be a huge springboard in terms of confidence. Erstad will remind them on a regular basis that they just beat the CWS runner up, which can be a huge shot in the arm. Other than the debacle against Arkansas, the pitching staff did as well as one could/should expect. Giving Arizona their first loss is pretty big.

To go 12-2 over the next 14, no matter how bad the competition is, you have to average more than 2.3 runs per game offensively.

Much needed W today. Need to go on a run now at home. WCU and Charleston won't be the easiest of competition but should be able to win the series at home.

Of course it is too early to say anything one way or the other on how this season is going to go, but is it really that eye-rolling that some people are dubious of Erstad at this point? We moved to a weak baseball conference and have how many championships to show for it? Our offense still looks as bad as a Tim Miles coached basketball team, etc etc etc.

The amusing thing is, the NU baseball program is pretty much exactly where I expected it to be under Erstad: not terrible, usually upper third in the Big Ten, occasional short-lived postseason appearance, etc. It's the same Erstad honks who guar-onnn-teed that he would absolutely dominate the Big Ten who now seem happy with the results, and who love to wag their finger at anyone who dares disagree with them.

I want to issue a sincere - albeit belated - apology to everyone here for foolishly starting a thread about this meaningless single-game win over Arizona. I mean for crying out loud, it's not like it was football.

You know schuele, I want to win as much as you do. I just don't want to feel miserable when we don't. I also don't want to fight with the handful on here that think it's easy to replicate DVH era baseball in Lincoln. I'm not sure what realistic expectations are for Midwest baseball. We won 2 out of every 3 games this year. I felt we had a good year and I enjoyed it. Sure wish we would have done a little better in Corvalis.

That's pretty much my take on the season as well. But I also don't need a lecture on how perfectly understandable it is to lose to Holy Cross after hearing people squeal "HA! Fire Erstad!" after each and every win over any team with a pulse.

True. However, I wasn't one of those doing the "HA! Fire Erstad!" Sometimes those memes gets old. So does the "Fire Erstad!" crowd after every single loss.

On this point we completely agree. Erstad is not going anywhere for the foreseeable future, so it would be nice to actually be able to discuss the baseball team from time to time without that screaming match taking over.

I think many on here couldn't understand why the Huskers weren't playing gonzo ball. Between the weather and the personnel, it almost begs one to play small ball. When it is working, small ball is a thing of beauty. I truly love small ball. When it's not... well, that's when you wish you had a guy like Adams.

All I'm hearing is "run the ball!" :D

I haven't heard anybody say it was "perfectly understandable" to lose to Holy Cross. It was unbelievable actually. Some of us tried to figure out why or how it could have happened. I still haven't come to grips with that but ultimately I realized when the seeding was announced that we weren't getting by OSU so I guess it's pretty easy for me to move on.
