Baylor, yet AGAIN!

At a private Baptist school no less. I would hope the President takes a moment and goes back to their roots of why their school was in existence. They sold out to the adrenaline of winning sports championships.

They've just about bottomed out, haven't they?

I used to feel a bit sad for Baylor in the old days, figured they were a religious university & couldn't really compete. Now, just a total embarrassment.

it'll be interesting how it plays out. as its been mentioned, the b12 can't afford to essentially lose another team from the ranks, but they might be able to 'afford' something else...

They aren't getting the death penalty. There will be no penalties as a result of the rapes and cover up. The NCAA could punish for impermissible benefits and potential recruiting violations. But the NCAA will stay out of the civil stuff.

See the CBSsports article I posted in the other Baylor thread.

I assume a S&C guy that gets caught with a hooker probably doesn't get a chance with another school, right? That pretty much means he will have fun a time at Golds Gym distributing steroids and wiping down equipment.

Huh??? The PSU Sandusky thing was primarily about a criminal/civil issue: pedophilia. But the NCAA leveled sanctions anyway because it was determined that Paterno and others knew about it and covered it up. But Sandusky was not an employee or player at PSU, whereas what is alleged at Baylor is that actual Baylor football players were committing crimes and the coaches were colluding with people at Baylor to cover it all up. And that cover up went all the way up to the President, who was forced to resign.

So if PSU deserved NCAA sanctions (and they did) so too does Baylor

Most every one of those sanctions were reversed upon appeal. Yes it hurt Penn St, but since they were reversed, the precedent is set going forward. Read the article from CBSSports.

Just read the article. Yes, I see your point now more clearly.

The PSU sanctions were reversed and thus you might be correct about precedent being set. But I do think there are two critical differences between the two cases. First, Sandusky was not affiliated with PSU football. The Baylor players are. Second, the case against the people accused of the cover up at PSU was always tenuous at best. But the evidence against the Baylor coaching staff and others at Baylor appears to be substantial.

The evidence or the affiliation to the university is irrelevent. The Penn St sanctions were not reversed because of Sandusky's affiliation with Penn DT or the tenuous evidence of a cover up. They were reduced because the NCAA appeared to be outside its jurisdiction.

As I said, the NCAA could get them for improper benefits and recruiting violations related to the sexual assaults. But a majority of the cover up and actions would fall under the civil code and the NCAA pretty much took itself out of that area when they reversed the Penn St sanctions.

I disagree with your conclusion that institutional affiliation does not matter. It pertains directly to NCAA jurisdiction. Because collusion between a coach and administration to cover up a football player's crimes - - crimes for which a non football playing student probably would face expulsion - - constitutes thereby a non permissible extra benefit.

But we will just have to agree to disagree and see what comes down. I just saw a segment on ESPN where the death penalty for this case was being discussed.

Anyway... we will see what happens. I gotta run

Regarding penn state Sandusky was a part of the penn state football team I beleive he was the defensive coordinator at one point

Sandusky did it for years it happened in the locker rooms penn states former wr walked in on it told joe. Joe knew what was going on he didn't report the incidents right away to his supiors. I believe all of the higher ups were fired I believe spanier was the ad at the time can anyone link the story.

Spanier was the President not the AD.
