24. Nebraska
Last Week:
4-0
Overall: 29-11, 29-11 in Big Ten (0-0 vs. Top 25)

Results:
May 21-22: at Indiana (W 8-5, W 3-1)
May 22-23: vs. Ohio State (at Bloomington, IN) (W 11-9, W 9-0)

Upcoming:
May 28-30: vs. Michigan

Nebraska had arguably the most impressive weekend any Big Ten team has had this season in sweeping four games against Indiana and Ohio State in Bloomington. When combined with Maryland taking a series at Michigan, it delivered the Big Ten title to the Cornhuskers. The Huskers' offense really came to play, scoring 31 runs in four games, and in the one game in which it scored just three runs, it got the best start of the weekend from righthander Chance Hroch. He threw a complete game, giving up three hits and one run, which came on a home run for Indiana's Grant Richardson in the ninth inning, with 10 strikeouts. Third baseman Max Anderson had three-hit games in the first and fourth games of the weekend, shortstop Spencer Schwellenbach went 4-for-6 in Game 2 and center fielder Jaxon Hallmark homered twice on the weekend. Nebraska has been the most consistent team in the Big Ten this season. It has hit precisely one speed bump, a series sweep at home against Rutgers, and now, that series feels like a lifetime ago.

Post season awards could be heavy on the Huskers.

Coach of the Year (obvious) - bolt
Freshman of the year (possibly) - andersen
Pitcher of the year (possible) - povich
Player of the year (should be) - Schwelly

Each one of these deserve it in my opinion.

Kern is the only guy who I feel can beat out Anderson for Freshman of the Year b ut usually the League Champs tend to get the benefit of the doubt when two players are somewhat evenly matched. Anderson is also leading the league in hits.

Povich is probably on the outside looking in. He seemed to be on the cusp until last weekend, but a strong outing this weekend could help his cause. He is at a 3.11 ERA I believe so if he could somehow get a sub 3 ERA that may give him a shot.

What Arkansas has done this season is nothing short of amazing.

They started the season sweeping a 4-team tournament with Texas Tech, Texas and TCU (current RPIs 8, 3 and 7). Then won all these series:

At Louisiana Tech (29)
Alabama (36)
At Mississippi State (5)
At Ole Miss (15)
At South Carolina (14)
At LSU (21)
Georgia (41)
At Tennessee (9)
Florida (20)

They are 42-10 against the most difficult schedule in the nation. They have 23 quadrant one wins.

This might be the best team in college baseball history.

Avoid Fayetteville!

Damn I wish the host selection was normal this year. We'd have to be a threat to host
I do feel a bit cheated by the fates in 2021. (And I’m sure the team does!) But I also think having the deck stacked against them in many ways strengthened their resolve. It’s what I expected from the football team last fall. (Oops!)

This team has only played 12–count ‘em, 12–home games all year and is 29-11. If ever there was a team ready to go on the road and win a regional, this is it.

Avoid Fayetteville!

A question came up the D1Baseball chat log - Does Arkansas have any weakness? And the answer was - Yes, starting pitching after the one good pitcher.

I read that and thought it was a pretty big weakness. Like huge. Then the answer went on saying they have an elite defense, an elite offense and a bullpen that can clean up any mess. Also saying Arkansas has a ton of high quality arms.

So, in the end, they have no weakness. That's how I read it.
