"He also discusses his relationship — or lack of one — with defensive coordinator Mark Banker, someone McMullen says he never spoke with throughout their shared time in Lincoln."

On his relationship with Mark Banker:
"I don't badmouth anybody. But I have never talked to him. I've seen him, tried to speak to him. Nothing ever really resonated. Coach John Parrella has been there a few weeks, and we probably talked six, seven, eight times over the last few weeks. Same with Coach Riley. Coach Banker has been there over a year, and I never even saw him, never received a text, a call, anything.

"I'm an adult. I don't really get hurt about too many things, especially not if someone isn't reaching out. To me personally, it's more that it would be nice for a defensive coordinator to at least show some appreciation or level of respect for an individual."

Also hearing he wasn't doing a good job on playing the best player for the job and not putting a stop to a few of Bo's former players BS crap they were pulling. Maybe both of these things factored into the decision.

Riley did say after the bowl game that it was somewhat the end of one team and the beginning of another and the coaching staff is starting to also reflect that ...I dont expect much the next 2 years but by 2019 things need to definitely be trending upward or that might be it

You must have the patience of Job. I expect immediate results from our new DC. By immediate I mean that we had better not take a step backwards from last year on the defensive side of the ball. And I can't imagine us taking a step backward on the offensive side. If we do, Cav is the next to go.

I don't think we will take a step backwards on offense... we have the QB to run it the way Riley and DL want to run it. Defensively, I have no idea what to expect. Does a shift in philosophy immediately make us better? I hope so... but is it fair to expect this?

I don't know, which is why I'm asking. Maybe it is...

I just think unless there is a drastic upgrade in talent next year is a 8 maybe 9 win season and 2018 is 6-6 ....that schedule is awful

It very well should be in year 5.

Riley will be fired if he goes 6-6 in year 4. I think lose 2-3 games at most.
Who do we beat out of Colorado, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa? We will likely beat a team that we are not supposed to and loose to one we are not supposed to. And don't forget – we will have injuries…

We had better beat Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Iowa or Riley isn't making the type of progress that we need to make by 2018.

We don't also know how good the teams you mentioned above will be in 2018.

Colorado losses a lot this year, MSU usually a tough game but not this year. Wisconsin will be losing enough after next year..

We should have the majority of our players back in 2 years especially if Tanner Lee is good as advertised and comes back for his senior year.

I think we have enough talent at LB to be formidable, because we will have more athleticism and create more of a pass rush with our OLBs. And we will have some decent size with our front 3. I can't imagine us taking a step back, because I can't imagine our LB play being as bad as it was this year. And if the tackling doesn't improve almost immediately from last year, we made the wrong hire. Our tackling was atrocious at times last year.

Today, 2018 looks tough but let me remind people that we a lot of dudes right now that'll have a ton of experience in 2018 under the current system.

2018 seniors:
Lee, Gates, Foster, Farmer, Conrad, Akinmoladun, Stoltenberg, Ozigbo, A. Williams, Reed, Ferguson, Young, Morgan & K. Williams.

Then, add in the rest of the roster.

Yes, the 2018 schedule is tough on paper but we'll have a load of experience to combat that, talented experience at that especially up front on both sides of the ball.

Everybody projected Wisconsin to have a rough year this past season based on their schedule.....No reason we can't do well in 2018. IF we're good then we'll be fine.

Thank you scarlet. My god its sad how far we have fallen when our fans are chalking up a loss to Iowa each year already. Look how good MSU was supposed to be this year and they stunk up the conference. Step off the ledge people.

At least Wisconsin had tOSU and Nebraska at home and it didn't hurt to play LSU in Lambeau field .

Of course they played MSU away and we will play them at home.

It's incredibly sad and frankly insane to predict the results of games that are almost 2 years away. The people who predict disaster in 2018 are the people who want it.

My sentiments as well. I think this current group will sink or swim.

Talk of ultimatums is getting old. I think we have a chance to let Riley get this California pipeline rolling. hes shown the ability to make necessary changes and the BIG and Nebraska are trending up in competitiveness. 2019 will be a good time to evaluate where things are at, but this revolving door "this is Nebraska" win now talk is not realistic to where our roster is currently at talent wise. It's on the right Road though. 20+ years for Osborne to find the right formula and he inherited a Juggernaut

I honestly expect to win every single one of those games. Ohio state is the only tough game, the rest we should win, no questions asked. And yes, michigan too. We should beat them.

Banker shoud have spent more time getting to know his players and less time talking to the press. I have no idea how the whole thing came down but this was a hard call from Riley's standpoint and it shows him making decisions with the team/program in mind first - I think this move was a huge step and he deserves 3-4 years to implement the whole change

I'm not sure how we can say right now that we should go into Michigan and beat Michigan in 2018. I hope we do, but they are coming off a Top 10 season and have had recruiting classes of #5 this year and #4 last year.

Regardless of how I feel about how the Banker firing was handled.....there is no doubt in my mind it had to be done. I feel much better about where NU is headed now. GBR.

Couldn't agree more. It made me sad that it wasn't done differently, but I am very pleased that we got Diaco. I'm hopeful we will have the personnel to run his defense.
