B1G's Most Dangerous QB on 3rd down, yep you guessed it.

He's totally won me over this season. I still don't think he's a great QB, but he has great heart and plays his ass off and I really appreciate all he's done for us this year. I will miss him next year. I wished he had a 3rd year in this system, I feel like he got screwed last year because of the stuff out of his control.

Sadly, as we saw again in the Wisconsin game, Tommy lacks consistent accuracy. This is what keeps him from being a "great" quarterback. But I love the kid. He has heart, and when he is "on" he is fantastic. He does seem to go to a new level on third down. I wish he could channel that into the first two downs as well.

So true. If he weren't on this team, we would have a dramatically different record, IMO.

I will take a pass.

Next year will bring in a new QB.

Hopefully one that doesn't throw for the end zone on 4th and 9 from the 24 in OT on the road.

The has only been one other Qb that I was hoping would graduate more than TA.

Drum roll....T Mart.

Yet because we were 50% on 3rd down...we were able to take the game to OT.

Maybe if he had a line that could block a pee wee football team or a defense that can defend 2 high school plays without giving up 200 yards rushing.....his 1st down numbers would be better. ..Instead of bailing us out from 1 yard runs.

I get that you want to defend Tommy, but throwing the defense under the bus is not the way to do it.

Excellent stat for 3rd downs, it stands by itself. No need to bad talk defense considering the game they played.

he is at 52% with 4 TD passes and 6 INTs in conference play thus far ... that is the type of quarterback play you tolerate from a 1st year underclassman starter

you hold your nose and ignore the stench with the expectation that said QB will improve in the years to come as he gains experience ... we are getting that play from a guy who is now in his fourth year as a starter

he is a hell of a competitor .. just not a very good QB

I also ? his leadership ... his hubris on the field (frequently chewing out his WRs) seems or far exceed the level of his play ... there is also the matter that his teammates did not vote this 4 year starter a captain which raises a flag to me

With Fiefe (spelling) we win 3 games? What is your option? If Tommy went down to a season ending injury this entire board would change.

Look at the kid and how much he loves his teammates and tries to work as hard as he can like a warrior to get us a win. Yes he is not a perfect statistical quarterback by any means but he cupboard is what it is. I have great respect for him. Recruiting and a consistent staff is our hopes to be more consistent. However, top ten with all of our injuries give credit to all the players and coaches.

no one has ever argued that he isn't the best QB on this team who is eligible ... that doesn't make him an above average QB .. it simply means he is the best we have

this offense is limited by QB play

and I'm not sold on the mutual respect between he and his teammates .. he is a 4th year starter and he wasn't voted captain by his peers (yes I know T Frazier wasn't a captain either)

You kind of killed your argument there. I don't put TA's stats strictly on Tommy. He's had a MASH unit for an o-line this year and it's only gotten worse. With no time to step into the pocket what do you expect? Yeah, he's a little gun shy. I would be too. Throw in injuries to our biggest playmakers (Westy, Carter and Moore) and it is what it is. You also can see what effect losing an arguably first team at punter has on field position. That's the excuses. And through all those excuses we're 7-1. We played Wisky strong in their home at night. We were so respectable that the voters kept us in the Top 10 in both polls.

I'm not sure what's with all the complaints, unless this is just message board chatter. We won 5 regular season games last year. All year. This year we've surpassed that. Likely to get to 8 and maybe as high as 10 (11 would be a miracle to me). It's amazing with all the injuries. You can see that the team has bought in to Riley. We should be excited that we are most likely going to land a Top 20 recruiting class with some real play makers. Could get to Top 10 as our victories pile up. All those folks that are redshirting are building that depth that we just haven't had. This year's o-line that's been a liability will grow into a strength. Look what JP has done with that thin DL in short time. Looks like cutting the cancer out has helped the remaining folks buy in. Our secondary is solid. Quite the opposite of last year. Drew Brown back for his senior year. Tanner Lee taking over after having a year to study the offense. It's like he's redshirting.

My point being, we didn't really expect to make the CFP this year. Show improvement over last year. Improve our recruiting. Build our depth. Just like last year we are competitive in every game. We have a head coach that we are proud of his behavior, not embarrassed. Maybe I'm just seeing the glass as half-full. I'm excited for the future.

IF he has time, Tommy CAN be very accurate. He's thrown some great passes. The problem is that his mechanics go out the window when he gets pressured as it does with most QBs. Generally Tommy "is on" when he gets time to set his feet.

I am absolutely stoked about the coming years .... I love being able to cheer for the team AND the coach ... in football you can get a lot of mileage out of being average at every position except QB .. if we get above average QB play this program may really explode

TA is doing the best he can and competes like crazy but the fact of the matter is we are quite limited given his skill set

we need to finish the year .. we have a lot of quality opponents coming up .. as much as people like to bag on Iowa I really think that is an even matchup

This...how people can look at our offensive line play, and then turn around and say our QB is performing badly.......Makes you wonder if they have ever seen football before.

We complain about not getting pressure from our defense...apparently to some of our posters on the board....pressure doesn't matter anyways....so why bother rushing the QB...smh

I'm way more concerned about some of TA's decision making than I am his accuracy. All in all, I think the kid is a pretty darned good college QB. I just wish we had a healthier deeper O line.

Old joke: "What do you call a man with two doctoral degrees? Answer: Incompetent in two fields." I'm starting to think that way about "dual threat" QBs. I think I'd like to see a few years with a first rate pocket passer.

So much this. If I could pin a message to the top of the board for a year, this would be the one.

No he can't be accurate, he's proven that for four years. He is what he is and it's never going to change.
