Was talking about Purdue in another thread, thought it was a good topic. My group of friends does one per year. Here's where we've gone so far. Would be interested in other places anyone has been:

Year 1: Michigan. Overall had a really good time in Ann Arbor, despite getting the mortal $hit beat out of us. We tailgated on a golf course, which I thought was odd, but it was a great spot. The bar scene is really cool but you can tell there's just a big fundamental difference between Michigan and Nebraska folks. I saw a ton of hipster beards, ipads, mismatched socks - that kind of thing. My cousin was in Dickies overalls and he stuck out like a sore thumb.

The Big House was a let down. It's just a giant bowl of a stadium. Just kind of underwhelming, despite the hype. Good looking women. Were treated relatively well. Got a lot of, "Welcome to the Big Ten!" when we were leaving the stadium, but again, we got murdered. Overall, mostly "friendly" jabs. Overall, would go back to Ann Arbor for a game.

Year 2: Purdue. For whatever reason, we had a blast at Purdue. Tailgated in a huge open field with hundreds of other cars packed in. The campus is one of the ugliest I've ever seen but the people were very friendly. Partied with them all day at the tailgate. One dude tried to walk off with my shades, but other than that, all were cool. Bar scene was fun. Actually ran into an old head coach of their's who knew Bob Devaney and talked to us for a couple hours. Great stories. Stayed at a Motel 6 right off the interstate with a bunch of husker fans and felt fine, safe.

My favorite road trip in our still-early goal of hitting them all. Would definitely go back to Purdue.

Year 3: Northwestern. My idea of a college gameday experience is a college town, passionate fanbase, etc. Northwestern just isn't that but it's probably not really their fault being it's Chicago. We had fun at the Blur tailgate but would be a distant 3 on my list and I don't think I would go back. They don't have many fans, the tailgating was subpar, the bar scene doesn't really exist. Everything is just too spread out and their fans just don't seem to care. I guess I'd recommend going once, but that's probably all you'll need.

Year 4: Illinois. Anyone been to Champaign?

Love this!

Year One: Northwestern, we did the Blur Party Tailgate and it was a blast, plus they gave me the wrong wristband so all my drinks and food were free, which meant all my friends drinks and food were free. We went to Evanston (stayed in Chicago) early and the bars were closed, they looked at us like we were crazy for trying to get in there that early. The stadium is okay, but you can basically sit where you want once you are inside, or at least we kind of did. Chicago was great the night before, tons of Husker fans. I agree like the poster above me said, I want more of a college town feel.

Year Two: Minnesota: We got hammered on Friday night, one of my friends had to be helped to his room after getting lost outside and of course throwing up in the hall and in the room. Game day was lame I thought, driving towards the stadium was kind of neat, seeing the frats getting ready to part and so on. We went to Stub and Herbs pre-game, it was fun. Went there after the game too and it was okay. It didn't seem like there was much going on and didn't seem like there were a lot of bars.

Year Three: Wisconsin: Great time, we stayed at one bar on Saturday and it was shoulder to shoulder, lots of fun and the fans were super nice.

So far, I think O Street, The Rail Yard and tailgating in Lot 7 or Champions Club are better than anything I have seen in the three trips.

This year we are off to Illinois. Probably should have booked a room already. They just opened the Grange Grove so tailgaiting might be better. But we will probably hit Kams and the Red Lion before the game, where all the Greeks hang out.

I plan on testing the Purdue game this year as it's in striking distance. My favorite husker game was 1982 NU vs. Hawaii in Honolulu. Needed a gimped Turner Gill to come in to save that one. Went to Missouri for the Crouch Run, and those fans were nasty.

Oh yeah. Mizzou are right up there with Colorado as the worst ever.

1. We've twice been to Northwestern, but what the heck it's city streets for me. Such a funny little place: easy to get tickets, interested but not remotely rabid fans, and great tailgating. A great place to take kids, and we're only 25 minutes from home!

2. Michigan State. I went last season and was treated very well. Never made it to a bar, drinking out of the SUV instead. Smaller-feeling stadium, and it was weird that the student section completely emptied long before the game's end but great place to watch a game. I believe that if Moore makes this catch Bo is still coaching:

That game was a microcosm of Pelini's seven years: rampant ineptitude (which I assume is shown here by having two receivers apparently running the same route) yet with a never say die attitude. So close.

3. Michigan. I've had great fun here over the years and attended the Nebraska victory a couple years back. Even then we were treated well, although M fans were so grumpy about Hoke that they probably did not have time to harass visiting fans. I've been to OSU and ND games there so I know they have it in them. The sense of entitlement, though, is palpable. Try not to bring up '97.

Haha, that reminds me, when we were there my buddy somehow found an old '97 Nebraska football national champions hat on ebay and wore it the whole time we were there. Nobody said a thing.

Haven't yet been to Rutgers, Maryland or Indiana. In alphabetical order (or close to it)
1. Illinois. Will see it again this fall as last time I was there was 1985. Nice campus and stadium has been downsized. Fairly small town. Nothing special.
2. Iowa. Been there multiple times. Lately it's been really cold for the games. Actually been treated pretty well most of the time. All seats are close to field.
3. Michigan. I liked the Big House but others in my group were disappointed. Lots of people said they heard we were nice fans so they went out of their way to be nice to us. No problems here.
4. Michigan State-- been there for every Husker game as well (even 1995) and always had a great time, even when they lost 3 years ago at the end. I've got a couple of friends who are MSU alums and invited us to their tailgates. One of my favorite stops in the Big Ten for friendly fans.
5. Minnesota. Never heard a bad word from MN fans but we are usually about 40% of the crowd so that helps. Minneapolis is a great city to visit with lots to do besides the Gophers.
6. Northwestern. Evanston is a Lawrence-like suburb tucked into Chicago. Friendly fans although this past year with the night game there was lots of drinking and a couple of kids in my area fell down stairs and had to be escorted out. Tons to do in Chicago as well-- one of the world's greatest cities if you ask me.
7. Ohio State. Loved the stadium but we were in the upper deck of the horseshoe and were so far away we were in a different area code. Most fans were ok but a few a little mouthy. Typical powerhouse trash talk. Would not go back though as the seats were just so bad.
8. Penn State. See Ohio State above. Seats in the upper deck in the end zone. I wasn't there in 2002 or whenever, just the post-JoPa game. Fans were very quiet but won't go back. Way to hard to get to State College.
9. Purdue. I was there. Nothing to remember other than we played and won. Will be back again in the fall. Oh boy.
10. Wisconsin. I've had the good fortune to be at games in Lambeau the past few years, and were amazed how well Packer fans treated visitors. Apparently they are also not Badger fans. We had some nice fans but some real douche bags, and some females in our group on the other side were treated like it was the middle ages. Unbelievable. Won't go back for awhile unless their program slips.

Went to Madison for the Big 10 opener...Loved State Street...pretty city and campus....Did Northwestern last year it felt like we were walking through the Dundee area and all of a sudden there was a little stadium.

Haven't had a chance to attend any BIG road games yet. Coaching 2 sports during the football season makes it a little challenging to travel for away games. I am jealous of you guys!! Winking

Hit Madison last year. Treated very well, even BEFORE the joke of Pelini played out. Cold, cold, cold but had a great time tailgating before and hit the first bar we saw after leaving. Got a few sympathy beers so I can't complain.

Madison just seems odd to me. I've heard people treated great and I've heard they're the second coming of Colorado. Not sure what to believe.

Madison is awesome but you have to be ready to deal with the drunks. They like to run their mouths at any opportunity they can (and it's not just their students). This isn't exclusive to UW, but they take it to the highest level. If you are ok handling those type of situations and can turn them to fun, you'll have a great time.

Football success is still a relatively new thing for them...and some of their fans epotimize this. Getting curbstomped twice in the recent years in Madision hasn't helped..

GBR

This literally sounds identical to Mizzou's fanbase.
