Not doubting you, just curious what you mean exactly by "taking a wager on it"?.... Just that he won't be much of a factor in the R.B. rotation?
The kid stepped up in the NW game when we needed him. It's possible more draw and screen play will benefit him. I don't think he's a feature back.
They are at a cross-roads, if they don't make a big move in the Spring I could see them moving along.
Wow, that list of "top-rated" guys sure brings it home. And you might be giving Andrew Rodriquez too much credit; am I the only one who thought he was kind of a marshmallow on the field?
PS. By all accounts, he was a fine young man, and I love his back story. I just thought he had very little toughness or fire.

That is usually how it works out with most any class. You are going to have about 50% of players that just don't pan out for one reason or another. That has always been the case with coaches dating back to Frank and even TO. I do think what is getting more prevalent is that kid are transferring more now. If you look at that list 5 of those players ended up transferring and starting for another school, and also you are going to have a Bubba Starling type to, example, Carl Crawford for Frank.
1.33 Rivals top 250 guys per class "working out" is bad. Real bad. Now, if you're talking about a class as a whole "working out", I'm with you.
Bubba isn't Carl, nor are there situations the same. Nowhere close. There was a 0% chance Bubba was attending and/or playing at Nebraska and that's why his clock didn't start (attend class) when he was on campus. And I use on campus loosely. Crawford had a much higher chance of actually playing for Nebraska.
2015 transition class: TBD but not looking good going into their redshirt soph year.
2016 class: Jackson, Raridon, OB (2 of 3, as it looks today, will pan out)
2017 class: Lyndsey, Blades, Roberts, Gebbia (TBD)
We'll see if the '16 and '17 classes, plus future classes, average 1.33 guys that "work out". I have a feeling it'll be higher than that....
You know what, you're right. Regardless of what I think, he has 2 seasons left just like Lee and Anderson, so he should be a TBD. I'll make the correction.
No I hear you! I just took a look back at the classes that Rivals has to 02. I don't know if all were top 250 guy, but if you look at the 4 and 5 star guys that NU got over that time I came up with 21 out of 44 that didn't pan out. Guys like David Horne, Curt Dukes, Ryan Schuler, Justin Tomerlin, Leon Jackson, Rodney Picou, Harrison Beck, Kenny Wilson, Andre Jones, Armundo Murillo, Blake Lawrence, David Whitmore, Quenton Castille.
On the flip side you have had some 3 star guys over that time that have far exceeded expectations too like Carriker, T. Nunn, B Jackson, Nate Swith, Matt Slauson, Prince A, E Haag, Roy Helu, Jarred Crick, A Dennard. So over time it is going to probably even out.
I didn't include all 4*, only the ones that were Rivals top 250. I have a conference call shortly, if I'm bored with it I'll do the research as far back as Rivals has the R250 list. Including non R250 guys is nice, but they're not the elite players - at least according to Rivals.
That's where we have to get better, to have a disaster of a "top R250 guys" like the 2011 class can't happen. That was Pelini's best class and 6 of 7 flopped in Lincoln.

Both will eventually get out played by younger better athletes. Jackson, Domann, A Williams, Blades... Radley-Hiles hopefully, those guys are the future. If they haven't gotten on the field yet I don't see it happening.
What is the conference call on? If they are like the ones I have to get on I should be expecting that list here shortly.
For me I don't know if it is the misses that bother me that much. It is more the over hype that tends to come with the players that sign. I know the recruiting analysts for teams don't want to burn their bridges with the programs, but all you ever hear is the huge upside and the potential of recruits from them. It is tough to try and project to the next level, you see that all the time in the pros as well.
I think I am going to start a rating system based upon past classes and see how that works. Say maybe a $9.95 monthly fee for website access.
Thank you. I pretty much quit posting cold turkey after the 2012 Ohio State game. I happened to be on the sidelines that game, and that's the day it became evident to me that Bo would never be an upper-echelon HC. The kids played so hard (I couldn't believe Martinez got up after some of the shots he took) but the OSU coaches embarrassed our staff. Anything I said from that point on would have been pretty negative.
Then dealt with a couple of health challenges recently.
All good now. Possibly moving from Indiana back to God's Country soon

Like some of us said for the last several years, we have to get back to Callahan recruiting if we ever want to sniff (conference) championships and/or top 12 finishes. I know, I know, we need better coaching than Callahan....
But, Riley has been applauded for developing with less so we'll see.

^^^ All of them were playing, but I would not say they "Panned Out"
Rod started 21 games, played in 40 total and at the least received HM all conference.
Turner, as a true frosh, lead all receivers with average/catch. He was 3rd in receptions his sophomore year, behind 2 NFL guys. His junior year he was looking at the same before injury sidelined him.
Mac started 26 games, played in 37 total games. He was top 3 in QBH or TFL in his last 2 seasons.
Did any of the 3 live up to their top 250 rating? No, but they "panned out" as described up above.
