You think that maybe a lack of depth defensively could be a reason why we always lose close games late? The defense is sucking wind because it's the same 11 out there every play. The football IQ by our resident pelini lovers is unbelievable
It's not Pelini lovers – it's somebody that just wants a respectable game in front of the greatest college football team.
I hated/hate Pelini. You are off your rocker once again. Some of these games is zero business being close at the end if it weren't for some serious stupid plays and penalties. Again, Pelini sucked...unfortunately Riley is laughable thus far. But hey...we kept it close against Northwestern....at home!

Look if we're playing the Alabamas and Baylors Id understand if we lost. The teams beating us are not that good. I know MR was dealt a crap hand but this team isn't playing with any passion or fire. So damn frustrating. Instead of fighting Iowa for the top of the west, were fighting off Purdue for the bottom.

How can depth be an issue on Defense when they barely had to play today? I mean time of possession meant our D wasn't on the field very much. How could they be sucking wind?

Is it just me, or are the only people who bring up Pelini are those who are trying to find any way they can to deflect the blame from our current coaching staff? Perhaps I've missed it, but where are the posts calling for Pelini's return?
What we're seeing now is simply the result of having a mediocre coaching staff. Riley has never been more than average. That's not going to change.
The coaches didn't fail to catch balls, make tackles, etc. The staff is fine, the team just isn't gelling.
Acceptance of that stat is a loser's mentality.

Tell me what is so bad about the scheme. Please, everyone wants to bash the coaches/scheme. Tell me what they're trying to do and what is wrong with it. Quit making generic platitudes and talk football.
What I saw was a lack of speed on the edges and the back 7 that created situations that required guys to make one on one plays in space and we couldn't do it. We were in position to make plays but just weren't good enough to get it done. Our linebackers and defensive backs were chasing wr's and running backs all game long. We were too slow and not athletic enough to stop Northwestern's skill players.
On offense, our offensive line got BEAT UP by the NW defensive line and Tommie Armstrong couldn't make enough throws to keep the offense going. Everyone clamors for us to "RUN THE BALL!!" but when we did that, we were getting hit for 5 yard losses because our o-line couldn't stop them from penetrating up field.
Someone tell me how a coach overcomes poor athletic ability at linebacker and the secondary as well as on the offensive line and at quarterback. I've yet to hear a single one of you people blaming Riley/Langs/Banker speak up as to how to fix it. Let me hear it. Drop some specifics.

It could have something to do with the fact that the offense is so bad and can not sustain drives.

We don't get paid six figures or millions to "fix it." Riley and his staff does. And whatever they are trying...isn't working. As I said in the other thread....we have talent issues. But we are not so void of talent to be as bad as we are. Again, if you can't admit that we have some serious coaching issues this discussion will go nowhere because you have your blinders on. Talent is only one piece to the puzzle.

Crap hand? I thought Riley was being dealt the best hand he's ever had in his entire career? He DOES HAVE MORE TALENT than he had at Oregon State. There's just no argument. Yet he's coaching a team that has me believing his Oregon State players accompanied him to Lincoln.
He bettter improve his recruiting ranking significantly, because all we're seeing right now is a continuation of his tenure with the Beavers.
I agree with above poster, its easy to blame coaches for every issue. But like he says, how can they fix it. We have who we have and have to play this season with the players we have. We cant run because our oline isnt...well very good, have trouble threwing because Tommy is up and down and makes some dump decisions and the defense, i believe tue main issue is depth and some true coverage corners. I think schemes and play calls are fine, seems like he goes with the feel of the game. Like today, you cant run it if we are getting smashes for losses, only thing left is threwing it to softened the rush defense.
So you admit that you have no idea what in the hell you're talking about. Good to know. You can't overcome bad talent with coaching. NW has given us great games the last few years and this is by far the least talented team we've fielded in a long, long time. If you can't block, can't throw, can't run, can't tackle...what can a coach do? Coaching is part of it, but you need something to work with.
We are talented enough to win this division. Just about everyone agreed with that heading into the year. Now all of a sudden we have bottom tier talent? Sounds like an excuse to me. I'm sure the reason why we can't tackle, run, pass has zero to do with philosophy with our current peronsel or has zero to do with this staff not getting it done. Lol. At the end of the day we are 3-5...and this staff has not proven they can get it done anywhere they have been. Why is that all of a sudden going to change? Sorry. I'm just not seeing it. Hopefully Riley can become a championship caliber coach but he's leaving a lot of question marks out there.
So now preseason hype is the basis of good vs poor coaching? If you actually had the ability to watch and analyze what you're seeing on the field, you'd see we don't have great talent. We have more walkons in our two deep than any other program in the country. We have had a ton of injuries. We have a new staff that has never utilized spread option talent, and tons of other issues. Don't blame the coaches for preseason FAN expectations. There's a reason no one picked Nebraska to win the division in the media. Fact is...we just don't have the talent to get it done.
Kid, I'm probably 20 yrs your elder at least. I've been a Husker fan my whole life. Yes, I do have family ties to Hawkeyes, but I'm a Husker fan first and foremost. What I've noticed is that younger fellas like you have an entitled personality and you do nothing but disrespect the team.
When do you ever post anything positive? Plus, you're always engaging in Hawkeye talk, and yet you call everyone else obsessed? Name one time, you didn't jump straight in a conversation they involved Iowa.

Well if continue to fall of track along with the team, we will be hurting for years. That's my current worry about this team.
