As the normal over the last 5 years. BIG10 gets killed in bowls. 16-42 over the last 5 years. 3-9 this year will Penn St currently trailing. Is this showing that the BIG10 is one of the weakest conferences in the country? Or the BIG10 just don't give a shit about bowls?

That the big 10 usually is in a situation. Beyond the top tier games, usually the rest are a matchup against a higher rated opponent than themselves.

Plus, give a mont to prepare for some basic offensive schemes, and it's even more favorable.

3-9 this year? You high?

Penn State up 49-35 in the THIRD... This is another reason you wait til games are over to mark up a loss for anybody...

Never counted them as a loss, said they were trailing. In the big picture of BIG10 not showing up in bowls games, it doesn't matter in proving my point. Even if they win, the BIG10 record is horrible

4-6 (only 10 eligible teams) is nowhere near as dire as 3-9, so I would push back a little... Nebraska lost to Tennessee in Tennessee... Iowa lost to Florida in Florida... Michigan lost to Florida state in Florida... unless you think home field advantage doesn't matter in bowl games, I would say you are overreacting.

At the same time, who should have won their game that didn't? Michigan should have won, but do you think Maryland or Indiana should have beaten BC or Utah, respectively? No one thought Minnesota would win, but they did. Nebraska, Iowa, even Ohio State lost to teams that were ranked higher and supposed to win. Wisconsin won, and they should have. I'm not seeing this bowl season as being embarrassing, short of Ohio State absolutely not showing up.

Assuming penn state holds on, I would say this bowl season has been disappointing but nothing more than that...

Now I'm upset. 3-7 looks a lot worse than 4-6... even though it was in USC's back yard.

How many games was the Big Ten favored? OSU, Wisconsin? Was Penn State favored? The Big Ten always plays up in the middle and lower bowls. Not to mention playing USC in LA, Florida in Florida, Tennessee in Nashville, etc.

Keep in mind, this is the same person who said we'd end up 6-6 or 7-5 at best this year after the first two games, said during the Oregon game that we'd lose by 4 TDs and said the program was never going to be great again and would be an afterthought. Overreacting is all he knows how to do.

I would say Michigan and Wisconsin, maybe Penn state... Ohio State against #2 Clemson probably favored Clemson in guessing...

Forgot about Michigan. OSU was favored by 3.5 in my pool. USC was favored by 6.5. So favored in 3 out of 9?

OSU was favored, with the line varying between 2-3 and closing at 1.5.
Wisconsin was favored by between 7.5-9 points.
Michigan was favored by 7.
PSU was a Dog by between 7-8 points,
Iowa was a Dog between 1-3 points.
Nebraska was a Dog by 10 by the time it closed.
Northwestern was a Dog by 3.5-4.5 (and won)
Indiana was a Dog by 3-4 points
Maryland was a Dog by 1-1.5.
Minnesota as a Dog by 8.5-9.5 points (and won)

Didn't realize OSU was favored... as the #3 team even, thanks for clarifying. Good thing Minnesota and northwestern showed up and beat their favored opponents... 1-9 would have been terrible. 3-7 still stinks, but last minute losses in 2 big 6 bowl games that could have gone either way shows that the B1G didn't completely lay an egg...

We basically play our bowl season as the road team, the long-term record will never be good.

Same old BS excuse....

Huh?

Right, I forgot, having a stadium full of the opposing teams' fans makes no difference...

Stop with the BS.

Sure doesn't. Loser excuse because the BIG constantly gets their ass handed to them. Do you think Alabama would give a damn where they played their bowl game?

I doubt players from any team care where they play their bowl game. Gives fans something to complain about though.

I would venture to guess any team with Alabama's talent wouldn't care. But for less talented teams like Iowa and Nebraska going up against higher rated teams in their own back yard, it does matter.

Don't be stupid about it. Home field does matter under those circumstances.

Hell yes Bama would care. The last home and home non confernce series that Bama scheduled was '2010 and 2011 seasons with Penn State. None of their other non-conference games are played up north or even home and home games. If they have a real team (power 5 team) scheduled, they will not schedule a home and home with them. They will agree to play the games in Arlingtin or Atlanta. So essentially games where their fans still dont have to travel very far. Any other team they schedule is a gimmie game at home. All this dates back to 2008 (on my quick search) and continues for a few more years at least.

Of course Bama cares. In 2013 they cancelled the 2016-2017 Home and Home series with Michigan State. Saban stated that playing 2 neutral site games are more lucrative than one home and one away game. I don't doubt that. Bama replaced those games with neutral site games vs. USC (2016 at AT&T field in Dallas) and 2017 vs FSU at the Georgia Dome (Atlanta). Now...both of those games are in the south. Like you I would love to see Bama play a neutral site game in the north...maybe at Ford Field (Detroit), Soldiers Field (Chicago), Lambeau (Green Bay) or FirstEnergy (Cleveland).

Yes, the BIG is inferior, and it will likely remain so. There will be outlier teams like OSU or Michigan on a year to year basis, but as a whole, the BIG will likely never be able to hang with the SEC(maybe the ACC as well) on a consistent basis.

Exactly. The trip for USC fans is approx 20 hours compared to 9 for bama fans. Trip is 4 hours for FSU fans vs 2 hrs for bama fans. Im sure hoping these other teams get a bigger check or why even schedule them? Let them play a 4th cream puff team. I also think its cheap for the SEC to schedule their last non conference game against a weak team towards the end of the season. Its an extra bye week.

Saban absolutely cares about all this stuff. No one likes bitching about perceived unfairness as much as saban.

Is it the norm to have 4 teams in the top 6 after conference play? Would it make you happier if the B10 lost a few more games during the regular season and had easier bowl matchups?

The reality is the B1o had some tough bowl matchups. The B10 is a great conference and in great shape going forward.
