Article about SE disparaging remarks about Iowa

That's the point, we shouldn't have to make a furious come back against a blah team. When deciding whether or not to fire BP, consideration is given to the teams performance against them. That's where we were with that clown running the show after so many years.

completely agree ... but he cocked up that press conference with his statements specifically referring to Iowa and opened the door for these type of articles

when asked about the Iowa comeback he should have simply stated something to the effect ..... "it was a great comeback, but when we evaluated the program in its entirety we determined a change was needed. A single game does not factor into the comprehensive evaluation."

Iowa has one good season every 4-6 years. Pretty sure his analysis of them is spot on. We weren't anything near a championship caliber team the last 5 years, but either is Iowa minus there one decent year. If Iowa would have somehow made the playoff they might have been embarrassed worse than the Stanford game.

I completely agree. His assessment was spot on. You just don't announce it at a press conference. It serves no purpose.

The guy needs to spend more time around HCMR to learn how to say stuff to the press without really saying it. Coach Osborne was a master at that.

Agreed about BP, but have to play devil's advocate here: Aren't you jumping the gun a bit when our current HC is 0-1 against Iowa, and just finished a 6-7 campaign? I have high hopes for Riley, and his recruiting has me quite excited.

But until we see the results on the field - and we're not slighting a coach who never won fewer than 9 games in a season at Nebraska - in lieu of a coach who has won only 6 thus far at Nebraska - doesn't your post make us look somewhat...presumptious? Or at the very least reactionary? You're expecting results without any semblance of proof, and defending an AD who up until to this point has come off as an arrogant jackass.

I think it tells you that he believes Riley is the guy. And he pushed all his chips into the middle of the table.

Good God. Husker "fans" looking for reasons to be sympathetic toward Iowa because their hero got fired. But I wouldn't expect anything more from them.

Well, no sh**. And if you read my post, you would understand that at this point in time, it makes SE look like a jackass. Not saying Riley won't make a comeback after his 6-7 start, but right now, Riley is 6-7 at Nebraska after a relatively easy schedule.

All I know is this: after SE's disparaging comments about Iowa, Nebraska went 5-7 in the regular season, and Iowa did relatively well last season. I loathe Iowa with a passion after being forced to live with them for years, but, I have to ask:

At this point in time, who looks worse?

Oh derp derp. Way to skip any facts I mentioned, and to jump straight to your fall back BS about anyone critiquing Riley being a Pelini lover. Surprise, surprise...

Somehow I knew you would take offense. I wonder why that is.....

No. This is what BP was for pretty much his entire time as head coach, including his 7th year at the helm. After 7 years, we were still trying to scrape out wins against mediocre teams. That is what is important. Riley's record was bad, but it doesn't make SE look bad, not after one year. Unfortunately for Riley, he doesn't have nearly as much time to turn this thing around as BP was given.

Just stop right there. It's Iowa. We're supposed to beat them. It was one year. Why should we temper our expectations until we have scoreboard? We don't stop being Nebraska depending on whether or not we beat Iowa.

Only to those looking to be offended. Jeezus. Husker "fans" used to have some pride. Now they are looking to blame anybody because their man got in trouble for abusing them. Just like a bunch of battered wives.

I am not looking to be offended. I had no problems whatsoever with Eichorst's remarks and didn't consider them a slam on Iowa.

BP is no longer the coach for those who still don't want to let it go.

Yea Riley is 6-7 with an inherited squad. Let's see what he can do when he gets a couple of recruiting classes under his belt.

Not that it matters, but most of the Iowa fan base wasn't all that offended by what your AD said. Iowa wasn't happy with a bad 7-5 in 2014. The fanbase expressed its displeasure loud and clear in communications to the AD and in the non-renewal of season tickets for 2015. I understand where Eichorst was coming from in saying coming back from 17 down against a mediocre opponent was nothing to get excited about. You just don't usually see the representative of one school specifically reference another school in the context that puts the other school in an unflattering light. What did Eichorst gain by mentioning Iowa in his reasoning for canning Pelini? Nothing, other than giving Iowa bulletin board material for the following year.

Again, not that it matters, but I think Riley is a good coach. It doesn't mean that conference championships are about to roll off the assembly line for Nebraska. It does mean I think Nebraska has a better shot at the type of success your fan base is interested in than did the previous coach.

No shit sherlock. I would point you in the direction of those that are looking for any reason to bitch. And yes, you were offended. It is pretty much EXACTLY what you wrote. There is no backpedaling out of that one.

I am tired of having people branded as Pelini lovers every time they have a different opinion than yours. This is a message board for discussion not for labeling people whenever they have a dissenting opinion from yours.

Except for the fact that said poster is a known Pelini apologist. It's pretty Black and White. If someone calling him out hurts your feelings, too bad. He IS gone. Funny you never chime in when the boners spew their crap. Don't like it? Don't read it. Or stop trying to be offended.

Thanks for your sage advice.

I'm fine with that, as that is how I am approaching it. Just sick of all these prognostications currently based on nothing but speculation.

The most delusional fan base in the the Universe. Still living in the 70s and 80s!

Happens every off season. Imo Huskers fans have a tendency to embellish wins before the season begins.
