I hate how commonplace it has become to hate on our exiting seniors recently. I've heard something to the effect each and every year since the final Pelini years. Hating on seniors every year just makes our fans look trashy, and I wish this practice would stop. For the most part, the seniors have played their asses off and are giving good effort and I think they deserve some respect.
Besides the obvious Nash and Ty being huge pieces that we will miss, there were several more making key contributions this year that we would have been worse off without them. I thought Gifford had a decent game to finish the year, and he finished the season as our leading tackler. Bullock has been solid all year, and I don't blame him for getting knocked off the ball carrier by his own teammates against Iowa. I thought MJ Sherman was the defensive MVP in the Iowa game. On every play, he stood up his man and pushed him back into the backfield. He was dominant. He's really come on lately, and I think he's going to go on to have an NFL career.
On offense, Jahmal Banks finally was starting to show his talents when he had some actual guidance under DH. And the same with some of the upperclassmen on the OL. I'm excited to see what our offense will look like under a full year with Dana Holgorsen. Without the seniors this year, we don't get to bowl eligibility and the critical practices for the young guys to develop. I'm appreciative of their efforts, the way they've conducted themselves, and for continuing to rep the university through some very tough times. So it's time to positively recognize them. Good, respectable fans don't shit on our own.
