I just watched Mike Riley's debrief with reporters after Thursday's practice. He's facing the biggest and most pressure-packed game in probably several years as the new coach at Nebraska, plus he just announced the 5 suspensions for Saturday, So how does he handle it? With professionalism, calm, transparency and by thanking the reporters for being there.
What a breath of fresh air it is to have someone who understands that being the head coach includes modeling behaviors that we can take pride in. I'm not sure his good guy status will last and I'm not foolish enough to think that he can stay popular if he doesn't put a great product on the field, but before we dive into the season and start to pass judgment on wins and losses, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate what Mike Riley has done since December to lead the program and begin this new era. I really hope that he's as successful on the field as he has been off of it.
