Over the years, I defended Pelini and Riley -- in fact, I was one of those wanting to give good ol' Mike one more year. However, this week, I've been watching the Huskers from 1994-1997 and even into the Solich era. It's like night and day. Defensive players flying to the ball, solid tackling, half a dozen defenders getting to the ball carrier, defensive ends and linebackers flying at the opposing quarterback. And on offense -- tough minded quarterbacks and backs just blowing it up behind an offensive line that just blew everyone off the line. Receivers blocking to create running lanes. It was genius. It was all business like too. There was an urgency on the field. There wasn't one player who gave less than 100%, 100% of the time.

As I watched it all unfold before my very eyes, I became more and more angry with Steve Pederson for what he did to dismantle one of the greatest programs in the history of college football. I don't think Solich was as great a coach as Osborne, but he was better than Callahan, Pelini and Riley combined.

So I apologize to those I yipped and snapped at who saw what I failed to see for all those years. I'm happy to see Frost at the helm. There won't be anymore half hearted effort on the field because anyone who gives less than 100%, 100% of the time simply won't see the field. At the end of the day, we may not have the best players at every position against every opponent, but I'm certain we will have the best effort at every position against every opponent. Our kids will be playing with a chip on their shoulders and play with an edge.
