Anyone who was totally surprised by last night's game...

I was hopeful we would play better. The fact of the matter is they outplayed us all game, but most significantly on 3rd down.
They made plays and we did not when it mattered most!

It's too much to expect to be able to stop simple sweeps we see week after week? It's too much to ask to see our WR get even a modicum or separation on routes? It's too much to ask blitzing LBs to hold on to the QB when the arrive unabated?

I must have outrageous expectations.

Win the game = surprise and admitting that our staff has us moving up.
Lose by less than 10 = probably mad that we didn't make some plays.
Lose by 10 to 20 = no surprise good team at home beats an inferior team.
Lose by 20 to 30 = surprised and somewhat pissed off.
Lose by 30 to 40 = pissed off and questioning the coaching staff.
Lose by 40 to 50 = really questioning the coaching staff.
Lose by 50+ = there's no questions left unanswered.

This was just one game, but it was a doozy. So you are correct, I was waving goodbye to "surprise" in my rear view window in the 3rd quarter.

I thought we would lose 35-7 before the game. Losing Pelini-style with our team going through the motions half-heartedly surprised me.

Hahaha. Yeah...our WRs are terrible. Sigh...

We have great wide receivers, but teams know we can't run the ball with our current o line and that we lack any qbs who can pass accurately. Our offense is a disaster and it our defense knows it.

I agree. But to suggest (another poster did this, not you) our WRs can't get open is freaking laughable. Like crazy laughable. They're constantly open.

Well they weren't as open last night. IF they got open they got covered up very quickly by some amazing closing speed. OSU has talent at every position and amazingly maybe their least talented guy is Barrett.

The receivers were open out of their breaks but the ball has to be delivered accurately and on time neither of which iour QBs are capable of delivering.

Actually, we had guys open. We just don't have the QB play.

But yeah...tOSU has tons of talent. No argument from me there.

...hasn't been paying attention. I did not expect something this bad, but also did not expect it to be competitive. We have a long ways to go, and that's been clear all season. Trust your eyeballs.

Virtually every time we had a guy open it seemed by the time the ball got there, their DBs had recovered. I don't think I saw more than a couple of uncontested catches all night by us.

Well, I have been paying attention and was totally surprised by last night.

I've said many times in the past 18 hours that I thought OSU would win, but I expected NU to be competitive. "Competitive" is a hard word to define, but I guess you know it when you see it. And I am certainly flabbergasted by a 59 point beat-down.

OSU had looked vulnerable in recent weeks, and NU opened some eyes the week before at UW. I fail to see how anyone can say it was foolish to expect NU to keep the margin under 50 points. Or under 40...or under 30. Or that OSU wouldn't punt all night...or that we'd give up 2 pick sixes...

It's way more than just "QB play" we don't have. We got whipped both sides of the ball up front. We were out "athleted" all over the field. And our tackling was utter garbage. I knew we were going to get beat soundly last night, but 62-3? Sorry, I thought those days were behind us.

I am surprised that the defense allowed 60+ points. I did not think anyone could do that to us. I know 14 were not actually on the defense, and we couldn't keep our offense on the field, but we had NO success stopping OSU's offense. None. That was surprising to me.

we were promised by the defenders of this tripe that the days of being embarrassed were over. I'm good with 35 to 14 or something considering the teams but 62-3? Anyone accepting that has a loser mentality.

I remember being outclassed 1 time under Oz...the OB where Miami beat us 20-3. I THINK we crossed the 50 1 time and they lived inside of ours. We still held them to 20. THAT game should have been 62-3.

Last night was an embarrassment. Others can make all the excuses they like. Sure looked like we had guys open all night...

I was totally in the camp that you could bet the farm on the 17 point spread. OSU last two games bothered me because I felt they were rattled and we would not be able to sneak up on them. Penn St did that for us by waking the sleeping giant so to speak. I thought we would have 2 losses going into the bowl game with both of them being to OSU.
