how Minnesota used to be a national power about 60 years ago and haven't been relevant since? Kinda feels like we are about 20 years into a cycle like that.
Winning is a habit..... unfortunately so is losing. Culture is everything.
Yes, that's where we are at. At least ND played for National Title 5 years ago.
The Riley hire was a total joke and many fans continue to think he will succeed.
Pot smoking arrests are just an example of his inability to lead. And his 4* kids obviously don't develop.
How long can the sell out streak possibly continue?
I think Riley could be good if surrounded by the right assistants that is why I was so hopeful about replacing Banker but just because he fired a crappy DC doesnt mean he did not turn around and hire a crappy DC - also I am convinced Langsdorf doesnt have the foggiest clue how to develop QB instead of running the damn ball and using play action he has put the entire offense on Lee's hands and after 4 ints lets hope the kid is not ruinedYep, and that's why the Riley hire was confusing. Mike Riley is a great human being and knows more about football than most people in this world. But being at Oregon State for so long allowed him to develop a habit of losing, where 7-8 win seasons were considered good enough.
It's the fact they are dumb enough to get caught.I wouldn't attribute "pot smoking arrests" as one of Riley's failures here. We all know that the habit is becoming more prominent in this age.
Besides that... Look at players like Quentin Castille, Randy Gregory, Alfonso Dennard, etc. Bo had the same problem.
Straw man argument.
So, you're saying his inability to lead rests upon "the fact that they are dumb enough to get caught"? Seems facetious to me.It's the fact they are dumb enough to get caught.
I'm saying the lack of character and other things are revealed. And to me this is a component of leadership. So, you're saying his inability to lead rests upon "the fact that they are dumb enough to get caught"? Seems facetious to me.

Sorry, where in your previous post did you reference character and these.... "other things revealed"?
Pretty sure you tried to use pot smoking as your entire argument. Again, grasping at straws.
I asked you question in my post. Are you not going to answer it or are you just going to slide back over to the herkie board? In your opinion.
Agree. To a recruit, the early 70's NC's look no different that something from the 1950's. We now approach 20 years since our last one, that is starting to look like a long way in the past - especially to 18 year olds.how Minnesota used to be a national power about 60 years ago and haven't been relevant since? Kinda feels like we are about 20 years into a cycle like that.
Agree that Langford is way in over his head. Play calling a disaster. Per HCMR was supposed to get Spielman in the offense didn't happen again. Probably the only receiver we have that can get separation from CB. In fact the whole Offense side has some mediocre coaches. Cavanah a mess.I think Riley could be good if surrounded by the right assistants that is why I was so hopeful about replacing Banker but just because he fired a crappy DC doesnt mean he did not turn around and hire a crappy DC - also I am convinced Langsdorf doesnt have the foggiest clue how to develop QB instead of running the damn ball and using play action he has put the entire offense on Lee's hands and after 4 ints lets hope the kid is not ruined

It's amazing the level of stupid that comes out of the woodwork when NU loses a game. It was one game.If you want to be taken seriously, bring something of substance. Your post is a waste of space.
Yeah and one of the best defensive minds in college football who took CU from being a dumpster fire to one of the best Ds in the PAC 12 had nothing to do with our offensive problems??...gotcha.Agree that Langford is way in over his head. I thought Riley's presser was fine. He didn't drone on and on about being in Oregon. He responded to a question about it. The rest of the time he discussed the game. You think he is gone after this year? GeezI think this will be Rileys last year. Just the way he handled the press conference after the game. Hearing him talk all about his great memories at Oregon/Oregon State. It's like he's given up the ghost. It's been my privilege.. etc etc.
Bob Diaco, whispered his way though his, and I'm not sure he's all there mentally.. this was really a weird one to watch.
Coach Cav has been a questionable hire since day 1. I viewed this year as a decision year on him. So far, he isn't making a case to be here next year. I'm happy that he tried, and he did give it a good try, but he isn't the answer.I thought Riley's presser was fine. He didn't drone on and on about being in Oregon. Here is what I took from his press conference beyond the usual coach speak: Cavanaugh better improve this offensive line or he is toast. In his opening statement he mentioned losing the turnover battle and not rushing the ball well enough to win. Later, when discussing Tanner Lee, while clearly disappointed in some of Lee's throws and decisions, he kept coming back to the pressure he was getting and the need to protect him better. He flat-out said we have a QB who can make throws and plays if you give him time. The very clear insinuation is that we were NOT protecting him well enough. Hmmmm... let's see... Riley thinks our running game was subpar and our QB was not protected well enough.
I think Cav should be fired, personally. Diaco has been here two games and half this board wants to roller coaster his ass out of town. Cav is in his third year and we have yet to see a single one of his lines rise above general shitiness and mediocrity. His lines always play like crap in big games.
What was the question?I asked you question in my post. Are you not going to answer it or are you just going to slide back over to the herkie board?
I agree. The thing that really makes me think he should be fired is the fact that he is coaching guys who are big and athletic and talented. We have guys on our line who were 4 star and high three star recruits that a lot of teams wanted. No way should they be beaten at the point of attack so consistently. Their footwork is poor, and their pad level and leverage is even worse.Coach Cav has been a questionable hire since day 1. I viewed this year as a decision year on him. Totally agree. But that is what is frustrating about a head coach with so much experience - whom he has chosen to surround himself with. Good coaches have their staff leave for coordinator or head coach positions. Not much of that for Riley so far...I thought Riley's presser was fine. He didn't drone on and on about being in Oregon. Nebraska football has been one of those hot gifs where they lure you in. Show something. Show more. Show more. Then right as the moment comes.... you get blue balls.I feel like it's been ground hog day on football Saturday's for 15 years now.
While I'm not ready to throw the towel in on Nebraska or Riley just yet your analogy above had me laughing out loud. As far as Cav goes, I'm willing to give him the rest of the year, but he should definitely be on the hot seat. The line is playing better this year IMHO. I was at the game. When you are down that many points there is no run threat so it is easier for the other team to t off on our QB. Oregon was coming on every play. Also, since I could see the whole field, I'm here to tell ya our receivers weren't getting much separation. There is zero doubt in my mind Cav should have been fired last year. That guy couldn't teach protection to a bunch of lesbians, I guarantee if he had that job 5 out of 10 would end up pregnant some how!
.
He's a hands off manager, who splays everything off on his subordinates. If things start to roll back.... the manager backs off and hides even more. Dives into the closet. The "You can't get me, cuz you can't see me!!!!!", Logic. We can see you gingerly. No pun intended. While I'm not ready to throw the towel in on Nebraska or Riley just yet your analogy above had me laughing out loud. As far as Eichorst goes, doesn't seem like a bad guy, or incompetent guy, but seems like managers I have had who ere policy wonks, having the staff read books like Who Stole My Cheese. The $5M donation to the student fund was inexcusable.
Spellman has dropped half the passes thrown to him. I can see why he's not getting a lot of playing time.Agree that Langford is way in over his head. Play calling a disaster. Ding ding ding. Winner winner. Don't get me wrong I really really like Mike Riley. Just a good football coach and even better human being. But a great coach comes in and usually doesn't take long to turn a program around. Just how it works and we haven't been fortunate enough to hire a great coach since Ozzy.We once had an industry leader at the helm and we were good. We no longer have that, haven't for quite awhile and it's shown. There was a time when you talked about great coaches the Nebraska coach was in the discussion, now when you talk great coaches the Nebraska coach is not in the discussion.
