Last night I watched a CBS produced special (similar to ESPNs 30 for 30s) about Wyoming's Black 14. The situation was before my time, and I was honestly unaware the event ever transpired. For anyone else unaware, in 1969, Wyoming football team was really good (undefeated), and they had 14 black football players who all chose to protest BYU for their typical BS by wearing an armband. They were promptly kicked off the team, and the program took a nosedive that it hasn't really ever recovered from.
I couldn't help but think about the implications this must have had on Nebraska football. Less than 10 years prior, we hired their coach (Devaney), and two years later we get a Natty.
FFW to present (last year), and we have 3 black players stage a protest, and the responses from our present fans in many ways mirrored the 1969 situation in Wyoming.
I think the special airs again on Thursday on CBS sports.
