Any chance the Florida AD fired McElwain because he could win out?

Florida could possibly win the rest of their games with maybe the exception of Florida State at the end of the season. (Neither of those teams seem interested in playing.) Did this enter enter into the AD's mind? Or weirdly, did this enter McElwain's mind?

I would question if he fired McElwain now so as to prevent his own firing.

I can't read the thoughts of man not do I even care to speculate. You sir/mam, have way too much time in your hands.

I think it's an interesting theory. After losing to a rival, the public support for firing McElwain is probably not going to be any stronger than it is now so I suppose it makes sense to do it now.

That’s a dangerous game because then everyone will want the interim HC and that really paints you in a corner. See LSU and USC recently.

This is exactly the point I've made about why firing coaches in the middle of the season for anything other than misconduct is a bad idea. Unless you've already got your next coach already essentially signed, sealed and delivered, you run the risk of an interim coach succeeding and building public support for keeping them around. We've seen how even winning a bowl game as an interim coach can build public support for keeping them. Remember the "we want Bo" chants from Husker fans after the 2003 Alamo Bowl win over Michigan State? And I doubt Bo is as popular among the fanbase in 2007 if he doesn't win that bowl game 4 years earlier.

The A.D. that fired him... was it the same one that hired him?

If yes:
I could see that he fired him right away to save his own job. Sounds like a similar Theory that some have brought up about Shawn Eichorst's firing.

I do not know whether the ad was receiving any pressure or if he was disliked the way Eichorst was, but if there were some rumblings towards the AD then who knows, he might have been trying to save his own job.

If no:
I am not sure how much of a possibility there could be for the AD trying to save his own job unless he was receiving pressure as well.
