Can you name one player on our current roster who will likely be considered a legendary Husker player when he's done? You know, a Ahman Green or Eric Crouch type?

I remember the 1982 team

Dave Rimmington
Dean Steinkuhler
Turner Gill
Mike Rozier
Roger Craig

There may be some but we won't know it until their playing days are done. At the end of the 1982 season, those guys weren't near as "legendary" as they are today. It's highly improbable but not impossible for Corcoran or Teddy to eat up the S&C and transform their bodies and attitudes and win the Outland Trophy in '23 or '24. IF that were true, we'd probably be thinking of them as "legendary" in 40 years

You just listed some of the best players in the history of college football. There is a whole universe of "much better than average" players from Nebraska's history that would be insulted for being compared with our current bunch. And I mean no disrespect to these kids, but you have to earn it on the field. Let's get a few Pierre Allen's, Roy Helu's and Tony Fonoti's before we start wondering whether we have the next Mike Rozier.

A whole bunch of Fonoti's. That dude was a road grader until he got too large his last few games. My favorite play by him was against K-State. He shot out of his stance and obliterated the NT. Diedrick (I think) followed behind him and Fonoti then eclipsed the K-State LB. They went down in a heap and the LB disappeared under him. Fonoti stood back up and yanked the LB back up while giving him a swat to the head as if to say he took that hit very well. Poor guy probably had nightmares after that game.

Legendary no!!! On this roster the best player was Palmer. The best player over the past 5 years was probably Jojo or Jurgens.

One definition of legendary might be becoming a consensus All-American. Here's the numbers of times we had a player named consensus All-American:

70s... 13
80s... 13
90s... 12
Since 2000... 4. (They we're Raiola '00, Funoti '01, Suh '09, Amukamara '10. Both Suh and a Amukamara were unanimous selections.)

We only had 12 players to make all American in the decade of the 1990?

Actually, it was only 10 players but 12 selections as Wistrom and Taylor were consensus All-Americans twice. (Consensus means they were first team on at least half the ballots.)

To be a legend here you need to win a major award and/or be a 1st team consensus all american. We haven't had anyone sniff that since Suh.

We'll unlikely see many more legendary-type players unless Rhule and future coaches fix the lack of development of young talent we've seen in recent years. The lack of winning aside, the failure to develop talent and having to lean so heavily on one and done portal kids to make up for it is one of the things that makes watching NU football less enjoyable than it used to be.
