The Lions signed Blount, resigned Zenner and Riddick, and the talk is that they will draft a RB in the early rounds. They seemed to have given up on Ameer, who hasn't been effective in the rare times he wasn't injured, averaging 3.3 yards per carry.

After years of having Huskers in starting roles with the Lions (Schlessinger, Raiola, Suh, Vanden Bosch, Bollocks, and Abdullah), it looks like the chain will be broken.

If he is cut.....Patriots

The Lions will keep 4 RBs like last year. Zenner is likely the odd man out if they draft a RB. If the RB is someone like Chubb then Abdullah is almost assured a spot as he can backup Riddick’s role in the passing game which is an essential part of Cooter’s offense. Lastly, Agnew is amazing returning punts but pretty bad as a KR. If they don’t add someone in the draft Abdullah would likely fill that role.

I loved Abdullah as a Husker but it from the fourth round on that you take guys with that size/speed ratio.

Lifelong Lions fan here, Ameer wasn’t the issue. Poor line play and scheme have been more to blame than th RBs.

Detroit hasn't had a 100 yard rusher since 2013 and Stafford has only had 7 RB's go for 100 yards in his career. I'd say scheme is a huge issue here.

Probably the best thing that could happen to him at this point. He'll get another shot.

Ameer wasn’t quite the same guy last year. I don’t know if Year two after the Lisfranc injury. He looked awesome in the first 6 quarters of 2016 before getting hurt. He just didn’t seem to have quite the same burst last year. I still think he’ll make the team because of his versatility though.

Ameer has the ability to be effective - assuming he can get and stay healthy. He really hasn't been able to do that in Detroit. Hopefully the Lions upgrade the oline or he is cut and able to join a team with better offensive personnel. I don't think he can be a feature back - but 2nd option and 3rd down specialist.....he still has something in the tank for that.

Ahman Green is the last amazing back who played for Nebraska. Buckholder did ok as well. It's been a while since Nebraska put out a starting RB
Name the top 10 RB of the last 10 years... it is a hard list to compile because the back is a committee position. Few guys can keep the speed and acceleration while also keeping healthy. Beastmode is one exception.

It’s interesting that running backs in the nfl can’t do this anymore. I wonder if strength and conditioning just have defenders hitting harder than they did 10-20 years ago or what. We just don’t see feature backs like Barry Sanders, Emitt Smith, Thurman Thomas, etc these days

Top of my head I would say LT, Steven Jackson, Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson, Arian Foster, Chris Johnson

He has been given plenty of chances in Detroit. If cut, he would land somewhere as a change of pace back.

I would say that perhaps the Lions will draft a Husker who will be an impact player to keep their string alive, so... Nick Gates?

You believe that Nick Gates will be an impact player? If so it will show just how bad of a line coach Cav was!

Nope, not my belief at all. But there are no other chances in the draft for the Lions to add a Husker after nearly two decades of having one in their starting line up.
