St. Petersburg Bowl. Reminds me of our last year's bowl game. Miami (OH) 6-6/Mississippi State 5-7. Monday, midde-of-the-day, December 26th.

Followed by the Independence Bowl. North Carolina State (6-6) vs. Vanderbilt (6-6).

I love college football and will watch and savor any game. Soon will be the end for this year and we will all be waiting for next year. Enjoy any game while it's here. If you don't like some of the bowl games it's simple, don't watch. I will. I may even tape a couple and pretend it's fall in july. I say we need more bowl games.

I love watching me some football but even I know that there are too many bowl games. Move up the 6 win requirement and get rid of some of them. When you have a 5 win team earning a bowl spot then there is a problem.

Agreed, I'd rather watch college football bad Bowl games than the alternatives.

Just shows we have 12-14 bowls too many now a days.
In a better world IMO...
  • The Power 5 breaks off.
  • No regular season games against the lower divisions.
  • Each conference champion makes the playoff along with a few at large to make it either 8 or 12 teams.
  • All other teams can schedule a scrimmage with another team in the winter.
  • Teams are allowed to either have a spring scrimmage or a preseason scrimmage against a non-Power 5 team, but not both (could still have intra-squad scrimmages whenever). If it's a preseason scrimmage, do it like basketball where it's a closed-door scrimmage to allow teams to be more creative (of course, we'd never know what happens other than what is leaked).
Bowls (and ESPN, who broadcasts most and owns some bowls) would obviously hate this and resist anything that hurts the status quo.

It's kind of funny. For the people who don't like the bowl games as such, don't watch and let the people who want to watch it have their fun. No need to whine about it. Just don't watch. I like the bowl games and hope they add 10 more.

Hay, I love the bowl games, I just think a team should be no worse than having 7-5 record so these games should mean a little more than having a losing season.

Back at you. It's a message board. If you don't want to read about people's opinions don't click the thread or turn off your internet.

I really enjoyed the foster farms bowl last year. I think it's more about the fan bases. Just because some of us don't like watching Maryland today. I'm sure Maryland fans would disagree.

It's television programming for a few hours on one of a million channels. How in the world is that impacting your life so negatively?

Expressing my opinion on a message board about a sports related topic does not mean it's affecting my life negatively. I turned off the tv. Will watch the Cowboys/Lions tonight.

And don't post your opinion if you don't want to hear other's opinions.

Who said I don't want to hear other's opinions on the subject. The one I posted that for said I should just not watch games if I didn't like them. That's exactly what I did. Am I not supposed to post opinions like this on this board? So, if I think that it's a bunch of garbage programming I should just keep it to myself? If trivial posts are not welcome on this board then where else would one express that opinion? So, I'm not supposed to express an opinion on these games, but those that like them are?

Ouch... so true.

Holy crap. Was wondering who was going to give this Maryland vs BC game away first. Bad part is BC still has, plenty of time to screw something else up. No mental toughness in this game at all.

Jesus no kidding.

And Maryland is currently embarassing the Big 10 with the worst OL play of the bowl season thus far.

Only way I get through some of these brutal early bowls is to put a couple bucks on them so I have a reason to watch.

The Maryland QBs has uad more balls batted down than TA did vs Wisconsin. Horrible. Maryland OC cant call a play without them screwing something up.

It affected you enough that you felt compelled to start a thread - telling everyone on a messageboard how it isn't affecting you.

Mmmmmmkay.

If it were good football id agree. But its terrible football. Awful football. Awful teams. Honestly its hard to watch, 1-aa ball and div 2 playoffs are much better products (wit inferior athletes, but the football and fundamentals are much better)
We need to have 13 bowl games tops...you can still have 9-10 days and nights of bowl games. One a night except two on the 31st, 1st, and 2nd plus the later title game. Thats plenty of excitement and availble football to watch without the crappy product. Much more exciting to make a bowl game, more hype.
Ive honestly been to div 2 games with more fans in the stands at the metro dome than what was in the stands today at marylands bowl.
(Off topic...i still hate hate hate the fact that maryland and rutgers are in the B1G)

They have no fans. Did you look in the stands? What a joke.
NCAA needs to start thinking log term here and eliminate some bowls. Can still make more money lomg term with having mote bowls bid for fewer spots and espn can benefit from those bowls bidding for the best days to play.

I agree with you. On the same note, so long as tv is riddled with reruns of every low-brow reality show, for now, I'll take the dog**** bowls as an option.

Given our options, I would rather watch a replay of two high school teams playing a regular season game than a new episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Or The Voice. Or The Bachelor. Or any other ridiculous show that has been on for far too many seasons.

Ultimately, bowl games are merely another, seasonal option for viewers who wade through a sea of garbage on a daily basis. If I have to change the channel from a bowl game because of disinterest, to me, it's no different than having to change from another replay of Pawn Stars.

I think it would be awesome if the NCAA lightened up and allowed Redshirts to play in bowl games as long as they are not in the playoffs. What would it hurt? Would bring some extra excitement to these games.

I suppose the only drawback would be having to leave some of our standard travel squad at home in lieu of the redshirts. Unless the ncaa would make an exemption on that limitation as well.
