The right is and always has been based on less government and more personal responsibility. I make the choices that are best for me and my family. I sure as hell don't need to government involved in determining and operating health care. As a veteran, I am VERY familiar with how they run the VA. If you want an American example of why socialized medicine is a joke, look no further than the VA.

I believe that rank and file republicans believe in less government...I just don't see it out of elected republicans.

When we have a financial crisis, instead of letting bankruptcy handle it (and that would basically mean the debtors take over most businesses instead of the shareholders), they bail out companies with big government money. If the let the airlines go under, all the assets will be owned by the debtors, the best way for them to recoup their money is to reform the business as an airline...so in the end, few jobs are lost, so why do we bail out shareholders.

Abortion...why do we have government involved at all...to me it should be between the woman and her God...Plus if you cede the power to the government to determine if a pregnancy is taken to term, you also allow that government the power to terminate any pregnancy in the future...i don't like government having that kind of power.

Military spending...you would think smaller government would look for ways to reduce our spending and get as efficient as possible, but no they throw money at the Military where we have lost Trillions of dollars that aren't accounted for.

Gay rights...why would a small government person care if two gay people get married...I think that the government shouldn't even be involved in marriage other than to deal with the contract aspect of it...that to me is small government.

I could go on...I do think that rank and file republicans are good decent people that generally want small government, but they sure don't seem to elect Republicans that follow through once they are elected.

I actually would vote for a republican that was truly small government and looked for ways to be more efficient. I for the concept of Negative income tax as a replacement for most our welfare programs (similar to a UBI). I think we can find efficiencies in our government but neither party when in power ever tries to reign it in...they only complain when they don't have power. If Biden gets elected, elected republicans will make the Debt an issue again....but not much is said about it now. Social issues, I would love to hear a republican say they just don't care what people do and the state will only be involved if it involves some sort of contract.

If you don't see the fundamental difference between words of "make liberals cry again' and how the simple and common tactic of putting campaign sign leads to your tires getting slashed or your property being vandalized, then I don't know what more to say.

Basic freedom of the second ammendment for one, the freedom to insure myself and my family how I see fit for another. The choice of being able to continue to use natural resources to operate my vehicle vs having to go green and operate a battery operated vehicle in 10 years.

I am not sure I see the hating other people angle. It is not republicans taking over cities, perputrating crimes on the general public. It is not republicans that are blocking the streets and destroying police stations and inflicting damage on police officers. It isn't republican leaders that are letting convicted criminals out of jail or not requiring a bond for 2 and 3 time felons who commit their 3rd or 4th felony. please

If you want or need the government to take care of you when you get old, that sounds like a you problem. That may sound crass but I am in my 50's and since I was in high school I have been told not to count on social security. So I didn't. Sacrifices were made at a young age for me to not be dependent on it being there. I'm sorry if you didn't plan for that. But if your whole reason for hating on Trump and the republican party is based on social security, then you sir haven't been paying attention for the last 40 years.

That is just off the top of my head. I am not going to tell you how to vote. Just vote, but don't come at me with weak ass arguments my 5th graders could poke holes in.
Im glad you said it.
I literally cannot fathom how someone could say with a straight face, after all that has gone on, that republicans/conservatives are the ones who are hateful! My goodness sakes!

The only way I can explain it is that these people think that
Words speak louder than actions, not the other way around.

If someone says they are nice and tolerant, it doesnt matter if they do not act nice and tolerant.

On the flip side,

If someone does not say things that I think are nice and tolerant, it does not matter if their actions are not violent/mean etc.

Trumps twitter matters more to these people than the results of his policies do, for example.

Its really fascinatingly disturbing.

Great post all around and good points on SS, I tell kids all the time dont plan on it. It needs axed, its a ponzi scheme that will run out and then be another liberal entitlement program even though Ill pay in my whole life.

Social security is not my sole reason for hating the Republican party. It's my example of how out of touch with reality they are. I know dozens upon dozens of elderly people. They all rely on social security. These are people who always worked. Always paid taxes. Always paid their bills. Always saved money. Getting rid of it will only cause these people to rely on some other type of government assistance. Myself? I plan on using it as another form of retirement diversification. Not relying on it. But it will help.

As far as healthcare - why is everyone so afraid of exploring a change to the system? Nothing wrong with discussing change.

The comment on battery operated cars feels a lot like the argument I used to hear when I was an NRA member. That the liberals will take our guns. I get I kick out of the fact that my step kids made the same argument the other night. Biden will take our guns. Which made me laugh. People will still be claiming that in another 20 years as an excuse to hate democrats. Just like I imagine people will be making claims about the democrats making us all drive priuses. Not going to happen.

I'm not looking to hate on the Republican party. I voted Republican for many years and come from a staunch Republican family. But they veered off when trump came around and like I said, started catering to 2 main demographics, IMO. I mean, good lord. If you would have told my dad in 2000 that by 2016 the Republican party would be backing a friend of the Clinton's who regularly appeared on howard stern bragging about his sexual exploits and who openly attacked John McCain for his military service, my dad would have told you to shut up, your crazy.

Hopefully one of the parties will come up with a decent candidate in 2024 because they sure as hell didn't in 2016 or 2020.

Because abortion is killing somebody, thats why.

Because you answered your own question regarding “gay rights”. Straight guys didnt have the “right” to marry a man either, did they? Government is to be emotionless. It does not care about love. Straight and gay men always had the same right regarding marriage, the right to marry a woman. It is not marriage if the creation of children is not a possible outcome. That is the only difference between marital relationships and any other kind of relationship. But I digress...none of this matters now...until they try to start forcing churches to marry gay couples, which you’d be against, right??

But lets go with your answer. Get government out of marriage. Religion defines marriage, and marriage is between a man and a woman. If you wanna give gay people a tax break, great! I agree, I wish more people got to keep their own money. You want gay people to be able to grant all contract and legal authorities to who they see fit? Absolutely! We’re in agreement again.

If the let the airlines go under, all the assets will be owned by the debtors, the best way for them to recoup their money is to reform the business as an airline...so in the end, few jobs are lost, so why do we bail out shareholders. - That is what they teach you in text books written by people who have never run a company let alone a government entity.

Abortion...why do we have government involved at all...to me it should be between the woman and her God...Plus if you cede the power to the government to determine if a pregnancy is taken to term, you also allow that government the power to terminate any pregnancy in the future...i don't like government having that kind of power. - You lose this argument because there isn't a true deity out there that believes in killing. With that said, I could almost stomach an early term abortion, one time or in the case of rape or incest. Where I get sick to my stomach is when the left starts talking about late term abortions and after birth murder (or what they call abortions)

Military spending...you would think smaller government would look for ways to reduce our spending and get as efficient as possible, but no they throw money at the Military where we have lost Trillions of dollars that aren't accounted for. Weak argument. Not that it makes the unaccounted for funds acceptable. But if you think military spending is the only place where you find unaccounted for funds, or that only conservative/ republican programs or spending is the only place where funds are accounted for, you're nuts. Secondly, if you are not able to protect yourself, you come across as weak. Like it or not, having a strong military allows you to better position yourself at the negotiating table.

Gay rights...why would a small government person care if two gay people get married...I think that the government shouldn't even be involved in marriage other than to deal with the contract aspect of it...that to me is small government. As with abortion, you are mixing religion with government. Conservatives have always based their ideology on religion.

Wait....which republican plan regarding social security are you referencing? I need details, because I have yet to see one that would take it away from elderly people, as you seem to be indicating in this post.

Healthcare? Hahahaha you dont want a conversation! Republicans did come out with plans/changes and they were ignored and the false “republicans cant come up with anything” narrative continued. (Btw i disagreed with any republican options or thst they even “had” to come up with something.)

How about this for change? Get government the hell out of health care. Because govt. involvement/regulation and cost increases are linear. But Im guessing thats not a good enough idea for you, so it doesnt count. Socialism is not the answer, period. There are so many negatives people arent even considering. No way.

As far as Trump, Im pretty sure if you would have told your dad in 2000 that Donald Trump would be the only realistic candidate celebrating and loving America, the flag, the anthem, and our history, MAGA, wanting to protect our nation, america first, etc....and told him all the other stuff going on as a reaction to his pro-American views? Yeah, pretty sure he’d call you crazy for that, too. I know I would have.

A couple of things. We saw what "change" did to our health care. We lost competition in the marketplace and premiums went through the roof. Second, what makes you think Kamala and Joe aren't coming for your guns? Have you read their positions? IF Joe wins and they take the Senate as well, do you really think they won't at least try to revoke our right to keep arms? Some locales already severely restrict that right. Do you think Joe will appoint pro-gun ownership judges to the Supreme Court?o_O

Not fascism. Its convenient to associate nazis with fascism but thats not what it actually was. America between 1930 and 1980 was probably the closest thing to fascism in practice that you'll find outside of Argentina and Italy.

Nazi Germany most certainly was a fascist government. Good Lord, open a history book. Both WWII Italy and Germany were the greatest examples of fascist governments in the history of the world..

You’re an idiot. You couldnt be more wrong about Nazis.
No wonder you are the way you are. You’ve bought it all hook, line, and sinker.

Nazis and what they wanted aside, the correct political spectrum is about political POWER not about political party. Fascism falls near both socialism and communism as they all have a lot of power. Fascism is what happens when communism proves an illusion. They both have the same goals.
The difference between a communist and a fascist is that the fascist has come clean with the goal.

Conservatives in America today are no where near fascism. The closest thing you can think of is conservatives love country/nationalism....hitler was a nationalist....therefore conservatives=fascists! Considering every president before Obama was a nationalist to different degrees, that makes about as much sense as saying someone is hitler because they have a mustache and hitler did too. The only reason “fascism has always been associated with right” is because your liberal professor says so as its politically convenient.

Common Liberals in America today are not fascists, either, although in an ironic sense the closest thing we have to facist type behavior is antifa, a liberal organization.

Let me know if you’d like some reading suggestions on the Third Reich.

How about you do some reading, and learn, simpleton. Good Lord, I can't believe people are even attempting to debate this! WWII Italy and Germany are the two greatest examples of fascism the world has ever known.

I never said conservatives were fascists. I said fascism is a far right ideology, which it is.

Trump, who some have called a fascist, doesn't even qualify as one, even though he does use certain tactics used by fascists.

”Nazi Germany wasn't fascist." Now I've heard it all. Unbelievable!!

Cool.

Our current POTUS isn't a Fascist. Color me surprised.

While Fascism may be defined as a right wing ideology, it is at it's core as much anti-conservatism as it is anti-liberalism. I don't see anything in Trump's moderate style of populism that even borders on radical fascism, especially when you look at the radical and continually failed, and now Biden adopted, views of Sanders, AOC and Harris.

Damn well said Tuco. Comrade Bernie, Dementia Joe and so on......lol.....the Dims have the perfect choices for them.

To me it works like this: I'm a moderate gun owner. We have enough guns to fill up a couple cabinets with your typical hunting arsenal. I don't get too worked up about gun control. Been there, done that, realized it was a sham created by the gun lobby. I don't vote based on gun control. But if the sherriff or ATF or whoever were to come to my house looking to take my guns, you better believe it would be a problem. It's this way with most people I know. Which common sense leads me to believe ain't no way in hell anyone is taking guns and it would take generations to get them off the street. So I vote on issues that are more important to me.

You lost me at MAGA. If your going to make a pro-Trump argument I wouldn't bring up his campaign slogan that was created to stir up uneducated, poor rednecks that normally a typical Republican wouldn't come within 10 feet of. You should have just included build the wall. Which now that I think about it is funny. I haven't seen any wall campaign advertisements this go round. I wonder why?

I didnt say nazi Germany wasn't fascist, you illiterate moron.

I can guaran-damn-tee Ive done more reading and research on nazi Germany than you and its not even close, so spare me your BS.

I have. Many times. The only reason people think the Nazis were just like Italy is because they were both nationalist authoritarians, but the fascists weren't quite as strongly authoritarian. As far as how they structured their government and economy, Germany much more resembled Russia than Italy.

I said Nazi Germany was one of the greatest examples of fascism in the history of the world, along with Italy. And you said I couldn't be more wrong about the Nazis. That immediately makes you "out of your element, Donnie."

You can say you "can guaran-damn-tee" that you've done more reading and research on Nazi Germany until you're blue in the face, but the fact remains that the Nazis were the single greatest example of fascism the world has ever known, other than Italy under Mussolini. Fascism IS and has always been by definition a far right ideology.

And once again socialism and communism are at the opposite extreme of fascism. At their core they as far opposite of fascism as an ideology can be. I can't believe you are even attempting to float that idea that fascism is related to communism or socialism. It makes you look like a complete rube.

No, that is incorrect. Germany and Italy were both fascist regimes during WWII. Communism is at the opposite end of the ideological spectrum.

I have already stated my opinion in this thread. I posted the ignorant slut video because when I read one particular post that is what came to mind.

I didn't see your post until now. I have said that fascism is far right. I don't consider conservatism to equal far right. But we know it to be on the right side of the political spectrum. Fascism is fringe right.

I've also never said Trump was a fascist. He employs certain fascist tactics, but I wouldn't consider him a fascist. I would more so just consider him as a phony or corrupt conservative. I'm still surprised the Bible he held in his hand didn't burst into flames. Of all the greatest miracles, that not occurring may be of the greatest.

Again: define fascism. What makes a country a fascist country?

What are you suggesting? To my knowledge, it doesn't.
Well there you go. In fascist Italy, labor unions (cartels) were an important component of their economy. The government encouraged large labor unions and helped negotiate terms of employment between private business owners and the labor cartels.

Well there you go. In fascist Italy, labor unions (cartels) were an important component of their economy. The government encouraged large labor unions and helped negotiate terms of employment between private business owners and the labor cartels.

But government still controlled the economy. That is the key difference. It was still Nationalism over individualism..

Anti‐individualistic,” Mussolini wrote, “The Fascist conception of life stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only in so far as his interests coincide with the State. It is opposed to classical liberalism [or libertarianism, as it’s also called] that denied the State in the name of the individual; Fascism reasserts the rights of the State… If classical liberalism spells individualism, Fascism spells government.”

Now explain why that system would be the polar opposite of communism (socialism in practice, historically).

No hooskerdu brought up religion. I couldnt care less if these threads get locked. They are off the rails anyways. Arguing with liberal people is a lot like arguing with religious people. You can reason on some very general things but when confronted with logical evidence contrary to their beliefs, they shut down the discussions because engaging them would cause them to actually think it out for themselves, thus causing them to challenge what they accept as truth.

Thats not entirely fair. Sure, people are more comfortable in their echo chamber but they wouldn't engage in discussion if they didn't want to experience a challenge to it.

Oh yes they would. They believe they have a shot because they believe they are right. Once conflicting points come their way, they change the subject, conflate irrelevant points so and and so forth. Not all, but most.

I dont care to point anyone out, but the fact that some of you on here actually believe Biden has a lead because the media told you is absolutely hilarious. Check out how many followers each guy has on social media, check the ratings when they speak, and look at the how motivated each base is toward the candidate.

I'll totally agree with this. Most people have never learned how to debate difficult topics and when challenged many do change the subject, create a strawman, red herring, etc. They still come into the discussion wanting to challenge and be challenged. Just my opinion, but I think that the desire to debate is based on reasonable intentions but the tactics used are based on learned defensiveness.

Yep, just like our glorious media that had Hillary running over Trump with the greatest of ease.

I concur.

I definitely don't want to go down the road of the 2016 election, but I'll say this: as influential as the media is perceived to be, that election proved that it isn’t.

Now explain why that system would be the polar opposite of communism (socialism in practice, historically).

Don't you think the answer is right in Mussolini's writings? Fascism is about commitment to the state, where workers are valued for what they can do for the state.

In its pure form, Communism is about production being controlled by the people, with each person having partial ownership and being valued equally, with an equal distribution of wealth. Communism = commune = common ownership by the masses, and eliminating classes.

The Soviet Union was the bastardized form of Communism, where it almost became a form of state owned capitalism. But even then the workers still had more rights than a fascist form of government.

And before you ask, I don't support Communism. And I only support Socialism inasmuch as it is applied to our hybrid Capitalist-Socialist society.
