Advice from Business Owners?

I wanted a little advice/wisdom from other entrepreneurs and business owners. I have my doctorate in Leadership and my expertise is in nonprofit sustainability. For the past several months I've been working on a unique sustainability model that I believe will assist small and medium-sized nonprofits. I've been able to put a lot of time and effort into creating the model and refining the business plan because my wife is an Occupational Therapist and also picks up additional hours where we need them.

Now, however, I see that the process of business development is going to take me some more time, particularly as I place more hours into research. Knowing this I feel as if I should find something part time to help pay some bills and give us some financial cushion.

To those that have developed businesses: What were your initial barriers? Did you work full time or part time as you created your business?

My expertise in organizational sustainability means that I also have talents in marketing, branding, communications and development. If, by chance anyone is looking for someone part time, I'd be thrilled, but more than anything I'm wondering about your experiences as you developed your businesses.

Fire away and thanks!
