Saw this article and got me thinking about the best of the best for pizza joints, as I've been to a ton in both cities. Don't post a list. Post say, a top 3, in order. There's only 3 pizza places you can eat at in either city for the rest of your life.

Some candidates:

Lincoln:
-Piezanos
-Isles
-Ramo's
-Patty's
-Yia Yia's
-DaVinci's
-Valentino's
-Mellow Mushroom
-Big Sal's
-Lazzari's

Omaha:
-Zio's
-Frank's
-Mama's
-Big Fred's
-Dante's
-Red Savoy
-Pitch
-La Casa
-Sgt. Peffer's
-Mangia
-Oscar's
-Varsity
-Pizza Shoppe
-Goodnight's
-Dudley's

My top 3:

Bronze medal
: Patty's Pub, Lincoln (wavered between Patty's and Oscar's for the bronze spot). Kind of off the beaten path a bit, but I grew up in that area and we still go there for the 'za.

Silver medal: Frank's, Omaha. The best New York style 'za I've had anywhere. Including New York. The owner is from there, after all. Foldable, thin slices (which means you can take down quite a few, so order a large).

Gold medal: Ramo's, Lincoln. Always get the pepperoni and bacon and it's just so legit. So legit in fact, that I can't stop shoving 'za in my head until it's gone.

Let this be the thread of all threads to end the pizza debate.

"Char" and "buffed" are my two favorite words. I like to mix the garlic parmesan and buffalo sauce 50/50. Crap, now I'm hungry.

1. Pitch
2. Zios
3. Uncle Maddios

Pitch is for the nice night out pizza...love that place. Zios or Maddios for the take out quick pizza.

I know there is A LOT better pizza out there.... but Lazzari's has the best memories. I have never had pizza at the other places at 1 AM.

what ever happened to pudgy's?
I am not sure if it is still open. The owner died from cancer. The wife said it would stay open. I have moved from that area since then and don't know if she kept it open. He was awesome.

Ahh, sorry I wasn't aware of that. yep, he was great.

My top 3 in Lincoln only
Yia Yia's
Mellow Mushroom (service is not good but pizza is)
Isle's

In Omaha Sortino's deserves mentioning as well as Roman Coin. Both much better than Big Fred's.

Big Freds's went down hill after Fred himself passed away.

Is Red Savoy still open?

Piesans (by Skutt) is really good. Baxters in Benson is good so is the Pizza Shoppe.

Lazaris in Lincoln is amazing and like someone else said I am not sure if it is the memories or something else.

Oscars pizza is okay but I don't love it as much as some.

Loved Big Freds as a kid, but last time I went a couple years ago it was gross.

I've always been a big fan of Old Chicago's "Double Deckeroni". Good stuff and a gameday tradition for me and my pops.

I

It moved to 167th and Maple. Terrible location, can't get to if going south on 168th. It's good pizza but a terribly run store. If it goes under, it will be because of the clueless owners.

Omaha

Pizzeria Davalo(Chicago Style)
Pizza King(Council Bluffs)

Franks was mediocre IMHO.

That location is cursed, I knew it moved there but I thought it closed. That place has been

Heidelbergs
Tropics
Foursomes
Red Savoy
(maybe one more place)

it is a pain in the ass to get into that area

When I lived in Lincoln I was a Piezano's man through and through. Hope it's still turning out great pizza. In Omaha, my fellow geezers might remember the Wooden Apple on Martha Street and you could also get good pizza at a couple of the old Caniglia's restaurants. I also liked Zio's back in the day, but haven't been there in years.

Love Roman Coin Deep Dish. When it's warm out I have to go walk around the Lake afterwards at the F St location.

Hands down...MAMA'S Pizza. Best bang for your buck. Taste and ingredients. 3 local's in Omaha, SaddleCreek & Cumings, 156th & Pacific, and the newest location in LaVista north of 96th & Giles.

You left off two of the top 5

Orsi's - Should never be left off the list!!!

and I really like Baxter's in Benson, but I'm stretching it when I say top 5.

LaCasa is my favorite pizza joint, hands down.

Stopped by a pizza shop off of 75th-ish and Pacific last week, on the north side in a strip mall. Very large slices and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Vrzal has a nice pizza joint just south of center on 156th. Not something I could have often but my wife and son really like it.

Went to UNL in the early 2000s...does anyone remember Miami Slice on O? Some good drunken slices were had there

yeah! There was also one in the strip mall south of target on 56th and O, I think it was called Gambino's or something like that, they distributed these coupons throughout the dorms for a 48 inch 1 topping pizza for like 8 bucks, no expiration date and they were printed on regular white copy paper so people just started making copies of them until the place had to stop taking them, lol.

I bet we ate 40 of those huge pizzas.

This will probably get me beat up, but my favorite pizza in either town is Old Chicago. The deep dish double deckeroni is amazing. Orsi's is second.

I like their food. My only problem is that I can go in that place and only have a sip of water, and end up with the runs within the hour. No idea why, so I just don't visit that establishment anymore.
