For the ones that I spoke with about Turnpike Troubadors the other day and all Red Dirt Country Fans, Aaron Watson was at the Gage County Fair the other day and he dedicated this song to Sam Foltz.
For those of you unfamiliar, the song is "July in Cheyene." It is about the life and death of rodeo super star Lane Frost who passed away while dismounting a bull at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Aaron wrote the song after speaking with Lane's family. I've seen him live 4 times and he tells the story about his encounter with Lane's mom every time he's played it live while I was there. Lane's mom told him that "Lane's biggest accomplishment wasn't any belt buckle he won. It was the year before he passed away he took Christ as his savior, and now He has him for all eternity."
I thought it was pretty cool.
