Maybe we shouldn't just dismiss tin foil hat conspiracy guy as just being crazy, he just might actually be right sometimes. It's their league, they have every right to do it, but I also have every right to think....Sick

What I don't understand is the need for people to 'announce' their sexual preference status to the world before an interview/draft.. it's just silly.

It was a brilliant business decision in all honesty. His "team" knew he may not be an NFL caliber player, so they made a business decision. You think that interview with Oprah wasn't discussed prior to his "announcement"? He played it perfectly.

Do you think it was a ploy to gain more fans from the LBGT community?

Don't over think it. It was a ploy to gain attention, period. With said attention came opportunities to cash a few checks he otherwise wouldn't have, as well as some notoriety, and it worked. After he quit on the CFL I think an assumption could be made he didn't care that much about football, so why not try to capitalize on what he did care about? His right to do so, and if he thought it was the best decision or him, then so be it.

I found it interesting because so many people openly wondered in the Rams drafted him because the NFL told them to. I did not think that was the case. I was wrong.

I was looking at it from the financial standpoint of the Rams, not the player. I have no idea what the financial incentive was for the organization.

Edit: ahh I see what happened.. Are NFL teams required to participate in that show? I probably wouldn't want my team subjected to that distraction either.
