Something to ponder:
History Lesson on Your Social Security Card
Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (and some older ones) didn't know this.
It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family
and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter
whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.

Social Security

Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and
Card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the
United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION was removed.

An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION"message.
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1) That participation in the Program would be
completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
incomes into the Program,

Now 7.65% On the first $90,000.

3) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,
No longer tax deductible.

4) That the money the participants put in went to the
Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
General Operating Fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,
Under Johnson the money was moved to
The General Fund and spent.

5) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed
as income.

Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away -- you may be interested in the following:
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
General Fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically
controlled House and Senate.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -----
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Q: Which Political Party decided to start
giving annuity payments to immigrants?
(AND MY FAVORITE):

A: That's right!
Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!
------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- ---------
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA),
the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans
want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens, especially those manipulated by the liberals, believe it!

I'm not worried.
I actually agree in that regards for myself however am worried for the generation after money will be borderline worthless. If it becomes a worry for our generation we will just print more money as it seems that is 100% the solution lately.

I'm not worried about that either.

Running out of money fast af
It is not running out of money. The politicians robbed it and have not put it back not will they most likely. It was never going to be taxed either. Now based on income upto 100% of it can be taxable. So paying tax on a tax. Awesome.

Income tax was also going to be a temporary tax in1917 (I think that year is correct) so go figure. Government lies about everything.

Where did this come from OP? Its not accurate at all.

The SS Trust wasn’t dissolved, it was unified with the general budget. What this means is it’s borrowed against…more specifically the trust buys bonds. Most people think China is the largest holder of US debt…not even close. SS is by far the largest holder of US debt.

SS is only taxed if you hit a minimum income threshold, ie you make money in retirement still. If you make over 44k, 85% of your benefit is taxable under the bracket you fall into. This was also passed in 1983...under Reagan.

FICA is still deducted from your income, ie you don’t pay income tax on payroll taxes.

Pretty sure it's a copy & paste from an email based upon the formatting. Reads like one of those partisan emails as well.

My wife started working at 15. She worked all through HS and college. She has paid in her 40 quarters to SS. Then she went to work for a school system that did not join SS but rather paid into the State retirement system. So now when she claims SS she does not get her full share because she collects from the State system. Her share of SS (or in the alternative her half of my share) is reduced, in her case by about 30%. I think SS says the folks who get smaller SS checks get a larger percent of what they paid in than people who paid in more money. So to fix this she doesn’t get her full share of SS. If we had a choice along the way to pay into SS or not or to pay into the State system or not then I can see the argument. But where we lived and where she worked we had no choice. The original deal was you paid in your 40 quarters you were fully vested and you got your share of SS. I’m pretty sure this changed under Clinton, another Democratic President.

2 is factually wrong you can read the 1935 Act. 3 is factually wrong they are taxed in the 1935 Act. 4 is a classic misconception of people who don't understand financial accounting, as I said in my earlier post the Trust still exists. 5 happened in 1983 under Reagan...maybe this boomer emailer thought it was 1993???

The last sentence is a microcosm of the issues we fact politically...internet sleuths who claim to be informed are the exact opposite of informed.

I seem to remember a Republican President lying about WMDs in Iraq and leading us to a greater than one decade war that cost of over a trillion dollars.

A Republican President cutting taxes on billionaires and huge corporations.

A Republican President calling a global pandemic a hoax.

Yeah, Republicans are so trustworthy.

Unless you say something mean, then the sensitive mods over there will just delete your post. So much for getting to use the "free" board.

tOS is the only place I'm safe. Even the main rivals board deletes my shit and gives me strikes.
