The young man who took charge of my golf cart and clubs at the end of my round today noticed my N hat and greeted me with a big smile and "Go Big Red!" He proceeded to tell me that his father coached with Riley at OSU and considers Riley one of his best friends of his adult life. The young man (I'm guessing young 20s;) said that he has been around Riley quite a bit and really looks up to him. He said, "Nebraska really hit it out of the park with that hire. Pretty much the second coming of Tom Osborne."

His dad took another coaching job before Riley left OSU and is now a head coach in division II. His dad still keeps in touch with Riley on a fairly regular basis. I asked if he has heard what Riley thinks of living and coaching in Lincoln and Nebraska. He said, "He's like a kid at Christmas. Until you've seen the situation first hand at Corvalis, you don't really understand. Especially if you are a Nebraska fan. He really did a pretty good job with what he had there, but the disadvantages are pretty overwhelming. He loves the opportunity at Nebraska to have all of the advantages that he never had at OSU." He said that Riley really likes living in Lincoln and likes the atmosphere of the community and the university and athletic department.

The young man knew all about Calibraska. "You guys are going to have fun."
