No blow out losses this year - they won't panic when something bad happens, and the coaches will CALMLY address the problem with a well placed timeout.
Speaking of time outs - I think we will see them used more effectively this year - not when the play clock is running out after coming out of a TV time out.
The team won't quit.
More younger players will see the field.
MR won't be afraid to rest someone during the game who is struggling - he will have his position coach calmly coach the kid up, correct his issues and put him back in the game to restore his confidence.
We will see athleticism all over the field, yes, even linebacker. Last year's scheme put the handcuffs on them.
We will see scheme changes during the game - coaches adapting to what the competition is doing.
The advent of the jet sweep will keep opposing defenses more honest - they can't just focus on the zone read and spy our QB and running back. they won't pin their ears back on 3rd and anything over 5 yards.
The offense will keep them more honest.
We will use misdirection to open up the quarterback for easier passes under less pressure.
If Armstrong cannot hit the short passes - screens, running back flares, inside slants etc - he will be sat down - but my gut tells me we see quite a bit of improvement in TA this year - mostly due to schemes which will give him time and be easier to execute.
Our offensive line will show drastic improvement in two key areas - technique (thank you Cav) and strength - the former due to simpler and more consistent play calling which will allow them to gel better as a group.
As fans, here are the things we will see in us....
We will be talking about the one or two close plays that cost us the game - not the meltdowns we've seen in the past.
We will still talk about the 90's each week - even though we all know those days will never come again. - Limited scholarships, TV for everyone, 25 programs with nearly or as good of facilities as we have, no more prop 48, and the days of assistants hanging around for 20 years are gone (that built consistency).
We WILL be able to start talking to others about our program without hanging our head or apologizing for our behavior on the sidelines.
My prediction for next year - 9-3, but nobody will want to play us at the end of the year, and our bowl game will be a huge win. Why 9-3?? It's all new - there will be a learning curve and growing pains. And this 9-3 will feel better than the last half dozen, because we will show we belong again!
