Texas got run over and left for roadkill against BYU. Bitch and complain if you must but let's lose the straight up bullshit comments. Riley and this staff had Nebraska looking pretty damn good against a very salty Cougar team. Did we play perfect? No, but i didn't expect that against a real team. The offense looked really damn good for it's first live game. And the defense looked very athletic and understood what they needed to do. I'm as pissed as anybody over the last play but that stuff happens. I'm ready for our next game and expect to see an ever improving team.

Too bad as someone else posted in another thread, there are people who would rather be right, then support the team/staff.

True.
Before this game, there were numerous posts stating that this was a possible loss, and that BYU was a strong team. Now that it's happened, some are acting like we were 30 point favorites who only lost due to bad coaching.
Losing sucks, and we had plenty of opportunities to win. It's disappointing, but it's not the end of the season. We can still compete for the Big Ten west with some improvement in a few key areas.

Let's also remember that a lot of people on this board are idiots and/or children and have the emotional fortitude of a menstrating Honey BooBoo

That doesn't sound good at all.

BYU is junk. They are not good. Get that out of your heads right now. You can not compare what BYU. did in years past against another team that didn't even make a bowl game.

The fact remains, Riley was hired to win big games. Get us over the hump. Win the close battles and win conference championships. Riley just lost to BYU. I am not a Bo fan. He had to go. But we were lied to. We were told the reason we fired Bo was because we were not winning big games and competing for championships. So we hired a .500 coach to replace a .760 coach. Makes zero sense. This move was not about winning championships and getting us over the hump. This hire was about trying to improve the publics and medusa image of a program the athletic department has given up on.

No matter what anyone says, we lost to BYU. This is the same old story with a different author. We lost a game we shouldn't have. Just like Bo losing games he shouldn't have. It's ridiculous. Absolutely BS.

Except the previous coaches we had that ending up being fired weren't condemned after their first loss....

Repeating that mantra over and over does not make it any more true. We get it. You don't like the hire. One game does not validate your opinion except in your own mind. If you weren't so blind with your disdain for Riley you'd focus on the different aspects of the game in which we did do well, not just the wins and losses. We all hate to lose. You just created your account to bash the Riley hire and nothing more. No one says you have to be a sheep, but if all you have is Riley was a bad hire then there, you've said it. Noted. Move on. You're not being objective at all.

Calling a team that made a bowl game last year after losing their starting QB for the season, "Junk" after game 1 of the next season is well, a "Junk" argument.

The fact you call them a junk team, and cant give them any credit goes to show you don't know football.

All you know is Nebraska should have won because well, we are Nebraska.

The athletic department has given up on its cash cow, right...

The ability of some to parade their delusions as facts is beyond baffling.

You are full of shit. BYU had more talent, and played more rivals 100 and 250 guys. Cupboard is pretty bare, especially along the lines. Try again, troll.

agree with everything you said except Nebraska looking pretty damn good. we played like crap.

At times I thought they looked good. At other times, not so much. Sounds like a first game to me.

Don't misunderstand, they have a lot of work to do.

I disagree the offense looked really good. We ran the ball for 126 yards, and less than 100 of those yards came from IBs. We don't have to be the offenses of the past, but we have to be able to run the ball when it counts. Even after BYU lost Tuiloma (their NT) halfway through the game, we couldn't run the ball when we needed to on 3rd and 1 (twice) or on 3rd and 3. I agree Tommy threw the ball fairly well and there is reason to be optimistic about the passing game. However, if the run game doesn't improve, especially as it gets colder and we get into the B1G schedule, other teams likely won't need Hail Mary's to beat us.

This is alot like the UW in 2010, but somewhat reversed. We were flat in the bowl, but pummeled them in their place early in the season.

Listen dude, if you want to talk facts, then list them all - not just the one that fits your narrative. There is nobody that was lied to except your narrow minded idea that Pelini was fired for one reason, and one reason only. That is 110% FALSE, and Eichorst said plenty during his press conference announcing the firing.

You don't get to choose what Eichorst said, as he said A LOT, and you failed to listen. PERIOD.

Below is some of what Eichorst said that you have left out, and we all know why...

Whenever I evaluate a head coach, I consider a number of factors both on and off the field beyond the outcomes of games. Let me say this. The people of Nebraska deserve not only high standards and expectations, but they deserve seeing our people and our teams reach them. I indicated during my introductory press conference that we will compete for Big Ten and national championships, and we will do so with class, integrity, sportsmanship and with a commitment to our student-athletes.

“It’s not so much the decision. It’s the consequence of the decision and our wonderful student-athletes and the impact on them and our great coaches and their families. Relative to what went into the decision I would say is totality of my review in the two years I have been here. There’s a lot of things that I look at. Outside of wins and losses, academics, leadership, the way in which we are teaching and our student-athletes are improving. During my review this past year, and at the beginning of the year when I set expectations, and I set standards, I had that in mind. At the end of the day, I didn’t see enough improvement in areas that were important for us to move forward to play championship-caliber football. We just for whatever reason weren’t good enough in the games that mattered against championship-quality caliber opponents. I didn’t see that changing at the end of the day. Coach Pelini, I have great respect for him. He’s a good football coach and a good man. It wasn’t a lack of effort by him or his staff or our wonderful players. I think new leadership was in order. We look forward to heading in that direction.”

As I just said, there are standards and expectations at Nebraska that are high both on and off the field. And although we did win a bunch of games, we didn’t win the games that mattered the most. I think we gave Coach ample time, ample resources and ample support to get that done. Now we are headed in a different direction.” (Read the last underline a few times)

“I think in the totality of the circumstances the best I would say is we didn’t meet expectations both on and off the field.

So spare me with your bullshit of one reason, and only one reason, for firing Pelini.

My take is that first we should have won the game. There were numerous plays that just weren't executed well on both sides of the ball. The last one lost us the game. I feel that much of this can be attributed to playing in a new system and a lot of inexperience on the field. The last play was coaching. Our guys were poorly positioned and that is on the coaches.

Second take is that we have some good talent but we also have a lot of talent deficiencies at various positions. We are not going to win championships with the current roster plain and simple. OL and DL is where it all starts and we need the young guys to develop fast. I think Riley will do well given time but he has some serious recruiting to do.
