What metrics have to be met next season for the defense to be considered a success and if they’re met will you come back on here and tell us all how wrong you were and apologize for the drama?
I know someone is keeping receipts.

I’d love to see a top 30 in total defense…. and/or a top 25 in scoring defense.

I believe that with Holgorsen calling the offense, the parameters above would then mean we could sniff 8+ wins

Do you think that's possible with the hires just announced 🤔

You from clarkeyeville?

What inclination do you have that it will be a success? Not trying to start anything just legitimately curious as I have little faith in our current players, and doubt we bring in enough transfers.

We will take a step backwards with the DL losing Ty and Nash as there is absolutely no one in that room that is still in, or now in a depleted DL room after those that entered the portal that was or is their caliber. Huge losses even if we had lost no one to the portal.

The LBs should be good as well as a much improved secondary now that Butler can properly with them instead of the DBs having to learn on the fly like this season as Butler only got here in early August and didn't even have a full month with them before the 1st game.

I told rhule about always having a strong dl...so that should'nt be a problem with the transfer portal to replace 0 & 9..
I'm expecting speed at lb to increase substantially and the corner to become "lock down"

the vast improvement will be 3 fold
1. we won't have to wait half a year to make a feild goal
2. raiola's arm will double passing yards
3. that the heat our new rb's from the transfer portal will double rushing yards...

thus big picture the defense improves alot and offense improves massively...and we have actually special teams

On the other side, the doom and gloom is a little strong today. I couldn't name most DCs on other teams. Looks like an install of successful Snow defenses being taught to Butler. All depends on young players & transfers. It sucks losing Ty & Nash, but it creates a need vacuum for top transfers into looking here.
And I am one that thinks our offense is going to jump to top 5 in the BIG. That helps the D more than anything.

Holding the opposing team to less points than our team at least 7 times, preferably more.

We have no idea who is even going to be on this team yet next year. This is only round one of the off season portal waves. We will have another in the spring and the fall.

Speculating on the defensive outcomes is not something anyone should spend time on at this point.

The only metric that matters is wins.

That metric is neither here nor there until 2026 at the earliest.

Thanks, trev

I'll wait for the D stats of the '25 Huskers and compare them with '23 and '24.

It's pretty sweet we get to see the new staff in action so soon in The Pinstripe Bowl. I doubt we'll learn a lot but it will still be interesting.

Snow ran a 4-3 at Temple, ran a 3 man front at Baylor and was working a 3-3-5 in Carolina. They will evolve the D White left behind. Snow apparently is a fan of multiple alignments.

FWIW, Rhule has historically had good defense everywhere he’s been.

I think he’s more comfortable letting Holgerson take full control of the offense, allowing him to give extra attention to the defense and special team. Add in Phil Snow as a second set of eyes and I think we’re gonna see improvement everywhere.

Rhule made some errors in choosing his staff, the first time around, but I give him the benefit of the doubt that he recognizes the deficiencies and is willing to address them, especially in light of the evolution of college football into a semi pro league

It’s gonna be fun too watch it come together. Butler may be the DC, but I would just about guarantee Snow and Rhule will play a major part in designing the unit. Butler will be most responsible for executing it and getting the pieces to work together

1) We play physical football
2) We pursue well to the ball
3) We communicate and play with discipline.
4) We show the ability to adapt to offensive schemes and make in game adjustments.
5) We get the most out of the players that we have on the field
6) Most importantly...We dictate to the offense not the other way away. Pressure, Coverage Changes, Front adjustments etc....

If we do these things we will finish with a top 25 defense in scoring, take aways, rypg, pypg, typg.

A lot of defense is about attitude. We haven't had that in a while.

Those are my metrics.

Specials will likely be required to get to those numbers. Wonder who will be coaching that unit 🙄
Not Foley. my guess is he will be 'not retained' after Jan 1st. Just need a guy who can consistently snap, and a dude who doesnt muff punts, or take KOs out of bounds at the 1. cant be that hard. Getting an average ST unit gets us those 2 extra wins. Offense takes a big jump, even better.
