For Nebraska, you'll all remember that 2024 began with NU Hoops knocking off #1 Purdue at PBA. That teed up a great run to a top 3 finish in the B1G, reaching the semi-finals of the B1G Tournament, and the first NCAA appearance in a decade. NU Hoops also finished this year with a good start to their season, with a win at Creighton and winning the Hawaii tournament. Hoiberg's crew gave us a lot to like in 2024.
NU Baseball picked up in early Spring and finished tied for the league title, then won the B1G tournament. The NCAA Tournament was a downer, but they still hoisted a trophy.
Of course, NU Football checked a few important boxes this year. They definitely left a few out there, but dominating wins over Colorado and Wisconsin provided more joy than this program had seen in nearly a decade. They finished with a pretty cool bowl victory at Yankee Stadium, and have us all more optimistic than we have been in a LONG time.
Not all of you are with me being fans of the Chiefs and Royals...so stop reading if you are not. The Chiefs began the year with a somewhat unexpected run to the Super Bowl in early February, then locked up the top seed in the AFC this Fall. They are literally 20-1 in 2024! And the Royals - of course - second only to the Huskers in my fan hierarchy, played great baseball all season long; being in a playoff spot all but a few days of the season; then winning a series before losing a tough one to the Yankees.
All in all, there was never a dull moment all year!
Happy New Year!
