2018 Schedule Released

I know someone has to start "conference season" with a non-conference series because there are an odd number of teams that play baseball, but it's nice that team is not us this season. I wasn't a big fan of it last year.

Also, nice that we get all of the NCAA tournament qualifiers in the B1G at home this season. Not sure how that worked out, but I'll take it.

Last season's Big Ten standings (when we play them):
* 2 Michigan (not scheduled)
3 Minnesota (HOME - March 23-25)
* 4 Maryland (HOME - May 4-6)
* 5 Iowa (HOME - April 13-15)
* 6 Indiana (HOME - May 11-13)
7 Northwestern (not scheduled)
8 Purdue (not scheduled)
-----
9 Michigan State (Away - April 6-8)
10 Illinois (Away - May 17-19)
11 Ohio State (Away - March 30-April 1)
12 Rutgers (Away - April 20-22)
13 Penn State (not scheduled)

* NCAA Tournament Qualifier

I've said it before, I'm really interested to know how the conference establishes matchups from year to year.

Last Season
* 2 Michigan (not scheduled)
3 Minnesota (Away - April 21-23)
* 4 Maryland (HOME - April 7-9)
* 5 Iowa (HOME - April 14-16)
* 6 Indiana (Away - March 31-April 2)
7 Northwestern (not scheduled)
8 Purdue (not scheduled)
-----
9 Michigan State (HOME - May 12-14)
10 Illinois (not scheduled)
11 Ohio State (Away - April 28-30)
12 Rutgers (HOME - May 5-7)
13 Penn State (Away - May 18-20)

So over 2017 and 2018, we will play the following regular season series:
Michigan - DNP

Maryland - Home in BOTH 2017 and 2018

Ohio State - Away in BOTH 2017 and 2018

Why are most the B1G qualifiers playing in Lincoln?
Because the Haymarket atmosphere looks so good on BTN Winking

Trip to Arizona sounds really good at the moment.
But I might just have to settle for a weekend in Wichita :Cool:

Oh Wow!
Defending B1G Baseball Champions
Breathe it in a second. Feels good.
Well that belonged to 2017.
What are the Huskers going to do in 2018?
Assuming this team is of similar quality
Maybe a lot.
Seems like there may be a change in scheduling philosophy?
13 non-conference opponents for 32 non-conference games
5 of those 13 opponents were .500 or better in 2017
- Oregon St 56-6
- Oral Roberts 43-16
- Utah 27-24
- Kansas St 29-26
- Cal Poly 28-28
these match ups account for 12 of the 32 non-conference games.
There's still some up and coming teams scheduled
Wichita St is rebuilding with two preseason All Americans
Washington St and UC Riverside will have some say
Then the in State rivals Creighton and UNO
But the point trying to be made is...
while this schedule seems set up for 'a lot' of Wins
RPI and Strength Of Schedule may be huge factors
if the goal of this schedule is to help obtain a Host Site.
Huskers need to pull off some good victories away from home
against the likes of Oregon St, Oral Roberts, and Wichita St.
Otherwise we're counting on the RPI of the B1G
which is getting better every season, but still...
Plus Huskers need a strong conference tournament showing!
And maybe, just maybe if everything else falls into place
Sections 109, 110, 111, 112 may be scrambling for seats.
(not renewable for post season play).

I like the way you're thinking, but it's this kind of crap that upsets us in other sports. But this may be the cost of getting Big Ten baseball a stronger position on the national stage. Need to look good on TV.

Remember when the Big 12 was making Dallas the permanent home for the football CCG? This is going a step further and giving us an advantage in the regular season. I'll take the advantage, but it's not a good look. In the 1980s, the Big 8 restructured conference football scheduling such that no team had to travel to both Oklahoma and Nebraska in the same season. That's why we played OU at home in both 1986 and 1987. (Had to look it up, Colorado ended up 2nd in the Big 8 in 1986 at 6-1 in conference but 0-5 in non-conference/bowl games. Wow.)

At least we aren't skipping the presumed stronger teams, which has in the past allowed a team to have an easy path to the regular season title. Minnesota a couple years ago comes to mind.

I hope you're right!
